Introduction to the third and final bronze-cased model unveiled by Montblanc ahead of the SIHH 2017.

In a preview of the SIHH 2017, which opens its doors in January, Montblanc has unveiled three new watches from the 1858 collection inspired by Minerva models from the 1930s, which feature bronze as a case material, a new departure for the brand. Following on from the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition and the Montblanc 1858 Automatic, which we covered recently, let’s take a closer look at the GMT version.

The new Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time comes with a 44 mm case in brushed stainless steel with a bronze bezel and crown, generating a striking vintage effect. At its heart beats the calibre MB 29.19, an automatic movement with a dual time complication entirely developed and assembled in-house, with a home time hour hand and day/night display visible in a small aperture just below 12 o’clock. The cutout home time hour hand is tipped with SuperLuminova to distinguish it from the local time hands, which are completely filled with luminescent material. At six o’clock there is a small seconds subdial and a date aperture for local time. The Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time displays local time and home time in an intuitive and easy-to-use way. The wearer can adjust the local time hour hand without affecting the home time hour, or the minutes and seconds hands, which continue working uninterrupted.

The Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time borrows from the aesthetic codes of Minerva’s military timepieces of the 1930s: black dial and subdial, bold cloisonné “cathedral” hands filled with beige SuperLuminova, vintage-style crown and a railroad minutes track around the edge of the dial, which also features a faithfully reproduced Montblanc logo from the past, with the words “Mont” and “Blanc” separated by a stylised outline of the eponymous mountain. An aged cognac calfskin strap with beige overstitching completes the retro styling of the watch, which is available for EUR 4,990.
