Mother's Day A watch, just for her!
Switzerland and the United States celebrate Mothers’ Day on 13th May. In France, it’s 27th May. Why not give your mother a watch that suits her own individual style? Whether she’s sporty, cuddly, geeky or traditional, there’s no lack of choice. We have selected twelve.
By Cloé Mugny and Michèle Brunner
A person’s appearance often tells you a lot about their character. Watches are not chosen at random, and they bring a personal touch to any outfit. For Mothers’ Day, we have selected a few different models that bring out the best in a variety of different personality traits.
Sporty – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Automatic
A steel chronograph is a classic choice for a woman who loves sport. Paired with a silk blouse, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak automatic chronograph brings a definite touch of character. In the summer, with its white rubber strap, bezel set with 32 brilliant-cut diamonds and silvered Lady Tapisserie dial, it will look stunning on a tanned wrist. In addition to the chronograph functions, It comes with an automatic manufacture calibre, 40-hour power reserve and a date. The horological credentials of this watch make it a stand-out choice.

Rock – Chanel Première Rock Gold
This quartz watch in different shades of gold wraps three times around wrist providing complete freedom of movement to women looking to stand out from the crowd. It brings a playful touch of bling to an otherwise conservative outfit. The octagonal dial, in the signature shape of the stopper of a bottle of Chanel no. 5 and the Place Vendôme, is in a matching golden beige. It’s the perfect accessory for the spotlight.

Classic – Maurice Lacroix Eliros Moonphase 35 mm
Classic doesn’t always mean “old”, and this Eliros Moonphase will please mothers of all ages who appreciate timeless design, the glamorous touch of diamond markers and the modern elegance of steel. The moon phase, another traditional feature, stands out against the white lacquered dial framed by the 35 mm steel case. But the watch is also bang on-trend, with its system of interchangeable straps. We rather like this one in blue leather.

Feisty – Hermès Arceau Cavales
This timepiece is for all those women who are ruled by their emotions and prefer to follow their heart. A horse – that most feisty and headstrong of beasts – dominates the centre of the dial in mother-of-pearl marquetry and black lacquer champlevé. Diamonds blaze around the chapter ring in the light-coloured version, and on the bezel in the darker variant. This Arceau watch, designed in 1978 by Henri d’Origny, is driven by a quartz movement and is available in medium (36 mm) and small (28 mm) sizes, to go on any wrist.

Geeky – Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon Monogram White
If your mum likes to stay connected as she goes about her business, she will be touched that you found her the perfect smartwatch. Its multifunctional high-resolution touch screen will bring all the functions and notifications of a smartwatch to her fingertips. No need to take her phone out of her bag to read that text message! The new Tambour Horizon in white is Android and iOS compatible, signed by the prestigious luxury brand, and makes an elegant accessory for your favourite female geek.

Mother hen – Piaget Possession
Is your mother perhaps a little... (over) protective? Do you appreciate her constant clucking, or is it maybe just a little bit annoying? It doesn’t matter either way. Whether it’s an ironic hint or a token of affection, just give her a Possession watch by Piaget. The pivoting bezel provides distraction for restless hands, and the elegant round case offset by a slender strap ensures the Possession watch is master of any occasion. It comes in gold or steel, with diamonds or without, matched with straps in different colours, but its style is as enduring as a mother’s love.

Hyperactive – Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Night & Day Medium
When there aren’t enough hours in the day to accommodate all her activities, why not give her a mischievous reminder to take each day as it comes. This Rendez-Vous watch will do that in its own sophisticated way, thanks to the sun and moon that take turns appearing in the window at 6 o’clock. The watch has a sunbrushed dial and midnight blue alligator strap, Arabic numerals and floral hands inside a 34 mm steel case. Don’t forget the rendez-vous, every 40 hours, to wind the automatic movement!

Rebellious chic – Bulgari Lvcea Skeleton
With its naked workings and the undisciplined design of the letters BVLGARI in pink gold scattered across the dial, this timepiece definitely has a rebellious spirit that will appeal to more daring mums. But its fun side should not detract from the complexity and virtuosity of its haute horlogerie skeletonised automatic movement, hand-made in Switzerland at the Bulgari manufacture. The touches of red on the lacquered hands and the crown cabochon jazz up this stunningly sophisticated timepiece.

Discreet – Carl F. Bucherer Adamavi
With its silvered dial and tone-on-tone hands and markers, this watch is the ideal accessory for mums who want to look elegant without drawing attention. A quick glance is all it takes to read the date, thanks to the window at 3 o’clock. The 31 mm steel case is easy to read, and suits a variety of wrist sizes. A black alligator strap, which is both elegant and discreet, completes this stunning automatic timepiece with its CFB 1963 calibre, guaranteeing a power reserve of 38 hours.

Nature – Schwarz Etienne Ode au Printemps La Chaux-de-Fonds Flying Tourbillon
In the never-ending whirl of daily life, there is often little time left for a country walk. That’s when you need a natural microcosm on your wrist. The honeycomb motif of the dial resembles a bees’ nest, and the bee sipping nectar from a blue agate cornflower could almost be alive. This model beats to the rhythm of the calibre TSE 121.00, and comes in a bright white gold 44 mm case with a flying tourbillon. It’s a breath of fresh air for nature lovers.

Cuddly – Cartier Panthère Lovée
The panther curled sensuously around the dial will bring a touch of feline grace to its lucky owner, thanks to its emerald eyes and a coat sparkling with diamonds and black lacquer. Nestled in the ultra-feminine case of the Baignoire de Cartier case, the elegant silvered dial with its satin-brushed and sunray finishes reflects the light of the precious stones. This two-handed automatic watch driven by the 530 MC calibre comes with either a leather strap or a diamond-set white gold bracelet.

Van Cleef & Arpels has expanded its Astronomie Poétique collection with 12 new pieces corresponding to the 12 signs of the zodiac. An exclusive light module harnesses the electricity generated by the mechanical movement to illuminates the translucent enamel beads scattered across the sky of the spangled blue enamel dial.
