Minute Repeater Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar - Patek Philippe
In 2018, Patek Philippe dresses its Grand Complication watch with a white gold case and a blue sunburst dial.

Launched in 2008, the Grand Complication Ref. 5207 is the only watch in the current Patek Philippe collection that features a minute repeater, a tourbillon, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar with aperture displays.

Patek Philippe has endowed this acoustic and micromechanical masterpiece with a new personality. It now comes in a white-gold case with a repeater slide and lug flanks that are engraved by hand. The light reflections on the white-gold case contrast against the blue sunburst dial which is accentuated with Dauphine hands and applied hour markers in white gold.

The watch is powered by the manually wound caliber R TO 27 PS QI movement composed of 557 individual parts. The minute repeater with two classic gongs strikes the time when the chime is actuated. As in all of the manufacture’s tourbillon watches, the crafted tourbillon cage rotates out of sight. This prevents daylight from affecting the quality of the lubricant, which would impair the long-term functional integrity of the watch. Owners who want to admire the tourbillon can have the solid white-gold case replaced with the sapphire-crystal case back that also comes with the watch. The instantaneous and simultaneous advance of the perpetual calendar displays (day, date, month, leap year cycle) around midnight is assured by a mechanism for which two patents were granted. The crisply legible dial features a day/night indicator and a moon-phase display.

The new Ref. 5207G-001 is worn on a shiny navy blue hand-stitched alligator strap with square scales that is secured with a fold-over clasp. It replaces the predecessor model in platinum with a brown dial whose repeater slide and strap lugs were decorated with obsidian inlays.
