Seiko presents a new diver's watch as part of its ongoing partnership with PADI, the professional diving instructor association.

Seiko's latest PADI special edition is characterised by its graduated dial that flows from blue to black and has a wave background. The 42.6mm diameter case is in stainless steel and is paired with Seiko's accordion silicon strap. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, beneath which the calibre 6R15 beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers 50 hours of power reserve. The new Seiko PADI special edition will be sold under the reference SPB071J1 for around €900.

PADI, the professional association of diving instructors, was founded within months of the launch of the first Seiko diver's watch. It may seem a coincidence, but looking back 50 years in scuba diving takes you back to a time that was all about setting standards, both for equipment and for instruction, that would keep people safe as the activity became ever more popular.

Over the past 50 years, PADI has evolved into the most recognised diver training association in the world, with over 6,300 diving centres and 136,000 qualified instructors around the world. PADI has issued over 24 million certificates and has done more for diving than any other organisation in the world. Seiko first partnered with the organisation in 2016
