Vacheron Constantin unveils a new twin-dial timepiece featuring 15 complications and whose case is decorated with a hand-engraved “Phoenix” and ornamental pattern.

Since the 18th century, Vacheron Constantin has perpetuated the tradition of the "Cabinotiers", the name given to the prestigious and cultivated watchmakers who worked in workshops bathed in light located on the top floors of Geneva's buildings. The expertise of these accomplished masters was backed by vast scientific knowledge and a curiosity for new ideas, nurtured by the philosophy of the Enlightenment. They craft timepieces of high technical and aesthetic complexity, inspired by astronomy, science and the arts.

Les Cabinotiers Grand Complication Phoenix

Within the Les Cabinotiers department, engineers, designers, watchmakers and craftsmen unite their imagination, expertise and passion to create unique pieces and specifically commissioned timepieces intended for clients and collectors. The new unique piece Les Cabinotiers Grand Complication Phoenix was born from this work hand in hand. This watch is equiped with a dark brown Mississippiensis alligator leather with folding clasp.

15 complications

According to the legend of the Phoenix, which arose in the East before reaching Asia, this fabled bird braved the cycle of life and death by setting itself on fire and rising from its ashes every 500 years. A symbol of immortality, it inspired the creators of the Les Cabinotiers Grand Complication Phoenix watch.

Besides indicating hours, minutes and the small seconds, this twin-dial watch features 15 complications : minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar (date, day of the week, month, leap year), power reserve, equation of time, sunrise time, sunset time, sky chart, age and phases of the moon, sidereal hours and minutes, seasons, zodiac signs and striking mechanism torque. The watchmakers of the Les Cabinotiers department have succeeded in accommodating all these functions within the limited space of the 19.10mm thick case by maximum miniaturisation of all components, while preserving their reliability.

The 47mm twin-dial case in rose gold features two slate-grey colour dials with contrasted numerals and hands, which offers an optimal legibility also ensured by the layout of the additional counters and the various time indications.

This watch is fitted with a hand-stitched, dark brown Mississippiensis alligator leather strap with large square scales and saddle-finish and is delivery with a corrector pen and a magnifying glass. A prestige winder box made of Makassar ebony wood houses the timepiece.

The calibre 2755

The many functions of this extremely complicated watch are ensured by the Calibre 2755, a manual-winding movement endowed with a 58-hour power reserve and dedicated to the particularly sophisticated models of the Manufacture. Grand Complication watches are a good example and this unique piece also belongs to this category.

The art of hand engraving

Epitomising a balance between innovation and the transmission of ancestral skills, this model pays tribute to a pair of engraving art techniques that few artisans still master: pounced ornament – or bas-relief – for the case-band; and fine line engraving for the bezel and case-back. At least a decade’s experience is required to perfect the ability of sculpting gold to create such a three-dimensional effect, in a process involving 300 hours of patient craftsmanship.

Given the extreme care lavished on details that constitutes a Vacheron Constantin signature, the wings of this legendary bird appear to be literally ready to unfurl on the case-band, while the movement of its slim neck extends elegantly and gracefully to the very tip of its beak.
