Crown

In watchmaking, the crown, or rather the crown wheel, is an indented wheel which engages the winding pinion and the ratchet wheel fixed to the barrel arbor. The winding crown is a knurled or fluted button of various shapes used to manually wind the watch. Pushbutton crowns are winding crowns which incorporate a mobile pushbutton for operating a chronograph mechanism or a sports counter, or to release the inside cover of a hunter case.
