  • About Blacksand

Blacksand is the creation of one man: Alain Mouawad. This Lebanese entrepreneur – a specialist in the watch trade of over 25 years' standing – has become highly familiar with a wide variety of timepieces. He is also a recognised expert in jewellery: Mouawad has been a name of world renown, mainly among royal families, for a century now.

With the desire to make a lasting contribution to the watchmaking world that is so familiar to him, Alain Mouawad founded Blacksand in 2010. His reason for doing so was to bring into being a brand that could be truly free in terms of spirit and creation. Blacksand has not hesitated to use movements with a good reputation for reliability made by others for its timepieces, but there is no doubt that these are indeed unfettered by aesthetic codes past or present.

In 2011, Blacksand was at BaselWorld to unveil its first models to the public. These use a wide variety of materials: titanium, pink gold, tantalum and ceramics.

In 2013, Alain Mouawad joined his two brothers Pascal and Fred at Manufacture Mouawad SA. He is now in charge of the destiny of the Mouawad Watch Division, which includes the Blacksand brand.

With a site at Breleux in the Swiss Alps and an office in Carouge, Geneva, the family business has concentrated on the development of its first in-house movements, including the Mouawad 2002 caliber with a column-wheel chronograph. The firm – which has since become “Mouawad Blacksand” – is also pursuing the development of new grand complication calibers.

Its motto, “Semper Fidelis” (“Ever Faithful”) sums up this commitment to the cardinal values of the watchmaking tradition, as well as to its philosophy of always aiming for excellence.

Blacksand, where simplicity and technical prowess go hand in hand, is a landmark in contemporary watchmaking art.
