  • About Hautlence

The history of Hautlence began in 2004 when a group of enthusiastic friends decided to get together to create a brand whose name is an anagram of Neuchâtel, their adoptive town. Hautlence is represented by co-founder Guillaume Tetu and Jean Plazenet, Chairman of the Board. The challenge they have set themselves is to develop their own movements and be proficient in new complications.

By 2005, Hautlence had already presented its “HL” collection, its first complication produced by a group of engineers, designers and independent watchmakers working together. One year later, two new models were added to the collection.

On the strength of this success, Hautlence set up its own workshop in 2007 and the same year presented its second collection, “HLS”, using the same basic movement as the previous creation.

Ever since, Hautlence's ambition has been to position itself as the leading independent watchmaking firm, making timepieces that might not be within everyone's financial reach but which are affordable for informed connoisseurs seeking unashamedly technical, contemporary watches.

Basing its legitimacy solely on the capabilities of its movements and its unique design style, Hautlence pursued its creative path; two years later, it developed its second movement and with it, its third collection: HLQ. The dimensions and mechanics presented in this collection demonstrate the extent to which Hautlence's creativity is constantly evolving.

In 2010, Hautlence presented the HLC collection, equipped with its third caliber. This offered a fresh interpretation of its previous models, on a smaller physical scale.

The following year, the firm left Neuchâtel for La Chaux-de-Fonds and presented the HL 2.0 model – an embodiment of watchmaking prowess, and developed entirely in-house. In 2012, Hautlence won the support of Georges-Henri Meylan, a captain of watchmaking industry, bringing the firm a fresh dynamic and building on its first decade of existence.

  • Hautlence's philosophy

In less than ten years, Hautlence has demonstrated extraordinary technical capabilities for an emerging brand. The manufacture has always been keen to stand out from the crowd; very early on, it successfully established a distinctive aesthetic appearance.

This Hautlence style asserts its leaders' determination to create fine watches that are built to last – and that stand apart from established design codes.

Today, in many ways Hautlence defines contemporary independent watchmaking: creative, free, and agile.

HL: Ceaturing a deep rectangular case with a clearly visible movement, retrograde minute display and jumping hour, the HL collection is the epitome of Hautlence's originality.

HLRS: The HLRS collection is the sports version of the HL, featuring colours and dynamic, contemporary materials.

HLQ: Here Hautlence uses the same basic movement, adding a date window and a small second hand inside a round case that leaves the caliber clearly visible.

HLC: A sister collection to HLQ, the HLC collection includes hour and minute movements in a single round case, leaving plenty of room for a mother-of-pearl dial.

HL 2.0: This is Hautlence's founding timepiece, demonstrating the firm's excellent technical capabilities. The HL 2.0 has become an essential benchmark watch in independent haute horlogerie.
