Mechanism,

A combination of parts put together to perform a function. A watch is a mechanism comprising various parts which are themselves mechanisms with their own specific function. Chronograph mechanism: assembly of parts to start, stop and reset the direct-drive hand(s) of a chronograph. Repeater mechanism: assembly of parts which trigger the striking mechanism and activate the hammers of a repeater watch.
