Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet celebrates the beginning of its partnership with Mark Ronson with the launch of a dedicated long-term collaborative programme revolving around the process of creation and the nurturing of human talents. The Manufacture is delighted to present the first chapter of this enduring partnership: a 3-episode series entitled Syncing Sounds which retraces the 7-time Grammy-Award winning artist and producer’s creative process as he works with 6-time Grammy-Award nominated, R&B artist Lucky Daye on the composition and production of a song. Falling within the scope of Audemars Piguet’s music programme debuted in 2019, this long-standing collaboration with Mark Ronson announces many enriching music encounters in years to come.

The “Creative Alchemy” of syncing Sounds

Syncing Sounds brings the audience straight to the heart of the collaborative process, which Mark Ronson describes as the “creative alchemy,” “the excitement” and “the ideas” artists feed one another, “just like one plus one is a thousand.”

“The only rule that always applies as far as being a producer is just being open to any sort of creative instinct that could happen at any moment. Each time I get in with somebody for the first time, we’re both starting on the same level and it’s a blank canvas. The minute somebody walks in the room for the first time, you have no idea what it’s going to sound like eight hours or two days from now. The idea with creating music is that you’re going to surprise both of yourselves or however many people in the room. That’s really the most exciting to me.” Mark Ronson DJ, songwriter and record producer

The 3-episode series introduces the inspirations that drive and shape Mark Ronson’s work, while opening the doors to his recording studio located in New York City. This space bore witness to many of his past collaborative projects, including the recording of Amy Winehouse’s Grammy-Award-winning Album Back to Black (2006), as well as Mark’s second album Version (2007). He recently returned to that studio after it was refurbished during the pandemic, marking the beginning of yet another new chapter in his career.

It is in this space with strong emotional resonance that the audience will follow the creative process shared between Mark Ronson and Lucky Daye. Acting as producer, Mark assists Lucky in expressing his talents to the fullest and exploring new creative dimensions. This artistic encounter builds on a past collaboration between the two artists who worked together on the recording of a soundtrack. It is the first time, however, that Lucky and Mark have the opportunity to compose and create a song from scratch together. An exciting project for the two artists. This song, which they describe as “a bop that’s going to make you feel refreshing again; a big bop that will turn back the hands of time,” will be revealed on May 13 in the series’ last episode before being broadcast on different platforms including YouTube and Spotify.

“Everybody wants to be Mark Ronson, every producer. That’s just an honour for me, because to be able to be seen by people that I consider the top tier of what my passion is, is kind of surreal, and it’s like a one in a million chance. And the thing that tops it off, is that when I’m in the room with him, he doesn’t have to keep reminding me that he’s a legend, and I don’t even have to remind myself. I can literally vibe, and we vibe like it’s nothing, and every time we work, it’s just easy flowing.” Lucky Daye Songwriter and Singer

The three episodes of Syncing Sounds will be revealed as early as May 5, 2022 and will be available on the brand’s website and social channels as well as on YouTube. Don’t miss out!

APXMUSIC: nurturing Talents and Emotions

Debuted in 2019, Audemars Piguet’s music programme supports rising music talents through collaborations directly benefitting the artists’ practice and development. Through this programme, the brand also seeks to foster enriching encounters between artists while inviting all music lovers to live unique music experiences brimming with emotions.

In the fall 2020, the brand launched its 180 miniseries in which international rising music artists from diverse backgrounds were given complete carte blanche and three days to create and record an original collaborative soundtrack. Each encounter was captured by a different film director. Following up on these creative challenges, the brand has also fostered individual and bespoke collaborations with rising artists, including THe Lyonz, to help them explore different territories and reach new heights in their career.

Syncing Sounds – the first chapter in Audemars Piguet’s new partnership with Mark Ronson – extends this collaborative endeavour. This project is the first of an enduring partnership, which announces many more surprises in the months and years to come! As Brand Ambassador, Mark Ronson will accompany Audemars Piguet in its mission to push human talent further to create the extra-ordinary and touch people’s heart – a mission which resonates with the talented artisan community that the Manufacture has supported and grown in the Vallée de Joux since 1875.

AP & Music: a long-standing Relationship

Audemars Piguet’s music programme builds on the creative synergies the brand has drawn over the years between Haute Horlogerie and the world of music through collaborations with experts in the field. One of its main collaborations started in 2006, when the Manufacture embarked on an 8-year research programme with EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and a host of experts, including musicians, to recover the acoustic tonality of 19th-century watches.

Furthermore, Audemars Piguet has nurtured long-standing friendships with music artists, including Jay-Z and Quincy Jones, who share the Manufacture’s values such as technical mastery, precision and a taste for innovation.

Furthering its engagement in the world of music, Audemars Piguet started its enduring contribution to the Montreux Jazz Digital Project in 2010, together with the Claude Nobs Foundation and EPFL innovation and research competences. This massive project has enabled the digitisation, preservation and enrichment of the Festival’s entire audio-visual archives, acknowledged by UNESCO as part of its “Memory of the World.” Extending this collaboration, Audemars Piguet became Global Partner of the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2019.
