This boutique brand at home in Dätzingen, Germany specializes in digging out long-forgotten treasures of watchmaking eras gone by and refurbishing them in a highly unique way in order to make one gorgeous collector's timepiece. The movements are excavated and refurbished by Germany's premier expert in vintage watchmaking, Hermann Grieb. They are then beautified and embellished by Jochen Benzinger, a specialist in engraving, guilloché and skeletonization. He, too, is perhaps Germany's foremost authority on these crafts.
Latest masterpiece
Basing these wondrous movements on vintage oeuvres of days gone by from masters such as Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe, the modern timepieces can only be one-of-a-kind. This latest masterpiece is a monopusher chronograph from 1926.
Though it must be nerve-wracking, Benzinger and his team perform their magic on the original components of the movement: first they hand-skeletonize the base plate and then they cover it with a coating of the blue platinum that Benzinger has uniquely developed as his signature element. Then they go to work embellishing all the other parts of the movement with engraving and guilloché that is only applied by hand. All 34 screws of the original movement have been re-polished and tempered the perfect cornflower blue over an open flame.
Grieb has also replaced the original balance and hairspring with a screw balance and a blued hairspring, guaranteeing precision and functionality.
The skeletonized dial reveals all the details that have gone into the loving refurbishment. What a shame that only one lucky collector will have the opportunity to buy this modern masterpiece reminding us of the golden horological days gone by.
