A city can never be captured in a single image. Its appearance changes constantly throughout the day, with glass facades that reflect the pale light of early morning, shine brightly at midday, then transform again as the sun shifts and sets. Beyond their landmarks, cities are shaped by the life that unfolds around them: people crossing streets, trains arriving, spaces emptying and filling again. Constant movement is the defining feature, creating the fast-paced atmosphere of modern city life.
Metro date power reserve ice blue gives this cosmopolitan character a distinctively new expression. It is the first watch from NOMOS Glashütte to feature the new hand-wound caliber DUW 4701, which offers a patented quick-set date and a power reserve of up to 52 hours. Through the sapphire crystal case back, the full elegance of the movement is on display.
This brand-new caliber continues a story of mechanical innovation that began with the initial launch of Metro date power reserve in 2014. The original model was the very first watch to feature the NOMOS swing system, a proprietary escapement. Only a small number of watch manufacturers worldwide can produce this crucial component themselves, and its introduction marked the beginning of a new chapter for NOMOS Glashütte.
The new dial takes on subtly different characters, depending on the light conditions and surroundings, shifting from cool light blue to almost white. The fine minute track, marking each minute with a single dot, and carefully measured use of negative space are strikingly modern; in ice blue, these details appear particularly crisp and precise. The new ice blue dial is also available for Metro neomatik 41 Update.
Metro was created by Berlin-based product designer Mark Braun, who has worked with NOMOS Glashütte since 2014. The first model in the family was Metro date power reserve, with a design characterized by its asymmetrically positioned power reserve indicator. Today the Metro family has grown to 16 different models and has received numerous prestigious distinctions, including the iF Design Award, the Red Dot Award, and the German Design Award.
