Ressence has joined forces with Hong Kong and New York menswear retailer The Armoury to present a new interpretation of the TYPE 9 – Ressence’s most compact and classically proportioned watch.

The collaboration brings together two distinct but complementary worlds. Ressence redefines contemporary watchmaking with its patented Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) and crownless cases, while The Armoury’s Hong Kong and New York outposts enjoy cult followings for introducing clients to the best of artisanal tailoring, blending British, Italian, and Japanese traditions.

The handsome new 39mm TYPE 9 ARM is comprised of polished Grade 5 titanium with a warm salmon-coloured dial, a custom fluted bezel, and a suede strap inspired by the textures and tones of tailored menswear.

“The Armoury pushed us to consider proportions and details we would never have explored alone –smaller scale, more classical decoration, and colours associated with traditional watchmaking,” says Benoît Mintiens, founder of Ressence.

“Yet the display, the form, and the philosophy remain pure Ressence. That tension is what makes this project so special. It’s one of the most unexpected watches we’ve made.”

For The Armoury co-founder Mark Cho, the collaboration was born from his longstanding relationship with Ressence.

“I admired Ressence for years – the clarity of the display, the organic form, the sense of movement,” Cho explains.

“But coming from tailoring, I wanted a watch that could live with a suit. Something smaller, more restrained, with details that echo fine clothing. Our role was to bring that sensibility: scale, warmth, texture, subtle elegance. Benoît took those ideas and refined them into a complete design.”

For this Armoury edition, Ressence retained the DNA of the TYPE 9 – the smallest watch the brand has ever made – 39mm in diameter, weighing just 39 grams – while layering in classical codes.

The polished titanium fluted bezel doubles as the functional minute track. The salmon dial, also titanium with PVD finish, is sandblasted for texture. A chocolate suede strap with exposed stitching completes the piece, chosen for its warm tone and tactile feel.

“The best watches are the ones you’re wearing the most,” notes Cho. “If a watch is uncomfortable or obtrusive, it will never become your favourite. An understated, smaller size is key –this is a conversation piece, but one that doesn’t shout.”

The T9 ARM will be produced in al imited run of 20 pieces. It launches on 10 September 2025, priced at USD USD 19,000 / HKD 148,200 (VAT exclusive). The watch will be available exclusively through The Armoury’s boutiques in Hong Kong and New York, and online at thearmoury.com.
