A re-edition of the Vulcain diver's watch presented in 1961, The Nautical Heritage Limited Edition celebrates the 50th anniversary of an historical model. This faithful reproduction of the original is water-resistant to 300 metres, equipped with the legendary Cricket V-10 alarm calibre, and associates its alarm fully audible under water with an indication of the decompression stages.

The mid-20th century witnessed the invention of the regulator, serving to balance the pressure between the diver's lungs and the compressed air reserves. This invention boosted the spread of scuba diving and the emergence of instruments designed to accompany sports enthusiasts. In 1961, Vulcain presented one of the first diver's watches with an alarm movement that was genuinely audible under water: the Nautical. Its strike represents a precise function which - thanks to its triple case-back serving as a resonance chamber - effectively warns divers that it is time to return to the surface.

In 2011, Vulcain is paying homage to this legendary model and opting for a faithful re-edition also enhanced with the levels of sturdiness, reliability and excellence made possible by modern technologies. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original model, The Nautical Heritage Limited Edition boasts all the characteristics required of a diver's watch. Its hand-wound Vulcain Cricket Calibre V-10 is equipped with two barrels: one to supply the energy needed for the hours, minutes and seconds functions, and the other to operate the alarm function sounding for a full 15 to 20 seconds. Its balance beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour and has a 42-hour power reserve. Introduced in 1961, its triple case-back ensuring optimal sound diffusion in water represented an important milestone in the history of technologies.

Like its forerunner, The Nautical Heritage Limited Edition is distinguished by a generous 42 mm diameter, a size that was initially designed to ensure optimal reading of the time during dives. The dial read-off of the various indications is further enhanced by large hour-markers and slender gold-toned luminescent hands. To facilitate reading off the stop times for each decompression stage, Vulcain has chosen to use two superimposed dials: a fixed lower dial topped by a second rotating dial adjustable by means of the screw-lock crown at 4 o'clock -and featuring a rectangular opening through which the diver can read off the stop times for the classic 9, 6 and 3 metre decompression phases, depending on the depth and the duration of the dive.

The engraved triple case-back paying tribute to the historical past of the 1961 Nautical model bears the Swiss Patents and US Patents inscriptions, as well as the corresponding patents numbers appearing on the original. With this 1,961-piece limited edition, the Nautical watch by Vulcain takes a second plunge back into the legend.
