The reason was the relaunched Tonda collection, the Tonda PF, which highlighted the Maison’s aesthetical and technical aspects and giving the watches a contemporary appearance without sacrificing any of its legitimacy. The changes did not go unnoticed by the public, and with the Tonda PF now a hit, the brand has expanded its reach into the luxury sports watches territory by presenting the Tonda PF Sport with two new models to whet the appetite: the Automatic and the Chronograph.
The Tonda PF Sport watches are Parmigiani thorough and through, elegant and exceptional in every detail while showcasing the collection’s sport nature. The new references are distinguished by two new design elements: one is the knurled bezel featuring 160 incisions whereas the Tonda PF featured 225; the guilloché pattern on the dial is clou triangulaire, an ancient decorative technique featuring a raised motif that enhances light effects, rather than the barleycorn version found on many Tonda PF models. Both models are teamed with a signature Cordura-treated stitched rubber strap.
The inaugural Tonda PF Sport Automatic is a time-and-date model that is 100m water-resistant and features characteristic clean lines, refined dials as well as nicely balanced proportions. The Automatic is presented in 41mm-diameter, 9.8mm thick polished and satin-brushed stainless steel or 18ct rose gold case with a screwed-in crown and an anti-reflective sapphire topping the silver-toned guilloché dial. The dial of the stainless steel reference projects a sense of of understated luxury, with hand-applied hour-markers and skeletonized delta-shaped hours and minutes hands (with a black luminescent coating), all made in rhodium-plated gold. All the dial elements, including the rhodium-plated steel central seconds hand, the tiny date indication aperture with a black background at 6 o'clock and the company logo, form a harmonious blend of classic elegance and contemporary aesthetics. Attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the hands and hour-markers to the case and crown. This is also true of the equally elegant rose gold Tonda PF Automatic, although this model is playing a different sport with its pronounced hedonistic charm conveyed through a rose gold interpretation of the hour-markers as well as the hours, minutes and seconds hands.
The two new Tonda PF Sport Automatic references are powered by Caliber PF770, wound by a 22K rose gold skeletonized rotor and equipped with a double barrel providing 60 hours of power reserve. This in-house movement comprises 179 components and features exquisite finishing and decoration such as the Côtes de Genève motif on the bridges, the beveled edges, as well as the polished and sandblasted rotors – all of which are yours to admire through the sapphire caseback.
The Tonda PF Sport Chronograph is also introduced in two versions, in cases crafted from polished and satin-finished 18ct rose gold or stainless steel, featuring black sub-dials on a silver-toned dial base base along with hands and hour-markers finished in line with the Automatic versions. The Chronograph references are equipped with the in-house, automatic PF070 COSC-certified caliber beating at a rate of 36,600 vph and endowed with a 65-hour power reserve.
