Focus on the RM UP-01 Ferrari

Richard Mille seems to pop up wherever and whenever one least expects it. The brand never stops pushing existing limits, often by taking an out-of-the-box approach. When it announced the first creation resulting from its partnership with Ferrari, everyone expected an ultra-light, ultra-complicated racing chronograph in an unconventional material. The RMUP-01 Ferrari is something else entirely. Richard Mille has decided to enter the field of the ultra-thin watch – and since it never does things by halves, to do so by creating quite simply the thinnest watch in history, bar none. The RMUP-01 is 1.75mm thick. That’s 0.05 less than the previous record-holder, and 0.25 less than the one before. What counts is the absolute number. To achieve it, Richard Mille has chosen an equally unexpected method. While records have been broken for the past ten years by erasing the difference between case and movement, using the caseback as a mainplate, Richard Mille has equipped the RMUP-01 with a separate 1.18mm caliber and a two-part titanium case. A construction that might have been described as conventional, if it had not been as slender as a CD.
