DLC - Diamond-Like Carbon

DLC, or Diamond-Like Carbon, is a class of amorphous carbon (ADLC or amorphous diamond-like carbon) that shares some of the properties of diamond. It can be applied to almost any material that can be used in a vacuum environment and can therefore be used to coat watch cases in a process similar to that of PVD, where the coating material is vapourised.

The advantage of an ADLC coating is that, unlike naturally occurring diamond, the coating has no crystalline structure and therefore no fracture planes. This means that the coatings can be applied to complex shapes (liike a watch case) and still  maintain the same hardness as a diamond.
