Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the TAG Heuer Monza with the launch of a new limited edition. Presented ahead of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio D'Italia 2026 in Monza, the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph pays tribute to the original 1976 model while embracing the technical expertise and design language that define today’s Maison. Produced in only 500 numbered pieces, the anniversary edition brings together fifty years of racing history in a chronograph designed for modern performance.
Born on the Circuit
The history of the TAG Heuer Monza is inseparable from one of the defining moments of Formula 1®. In 1971, Heuer became the Official Timekeeper of Scuderia Ferrari, becoming the first watchmaker to partner with a Formula 1® team and establishing a relationship with one of motorsport’s most legendary names. Four years later, Niki Lauda secured the Formula 1® World Championship, bringing Ferrari its first Drivers’ title since 1964. To celebrate this achievement, Heuer introduced the Monza collection in 1976, creating a chronograph that immediately stood apart through its distinctive and unmistakable racing appearance and character. Its bold personality and close connection with motorsport quickly established it as one of the Maison’s most recognizable chronographs. Over the following decades, the TAG Heuer Monza continued to evolve through successive interpretations, each reflecting the technical progress and creative direction of its era.
To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, the TAG Heuer Monza enters a new chapter. This limited edition draws inspiration from its visual identity while building upon the contemporary TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph introduced in 2023.The result is a watch that honors an important moment in the Maison’s history while expressing today’s vision of performance and precision.
Engineered for Today’s Race
The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph presents a contemporary interpretation of one of the Maison’s most distinctive racing chronographs. Every element has been conceived to express performance through modern materials, purposeful design and mechanical precision, while preserving the visual cues that have defined the collection for five decades.
Its 42 mm forged carbon case immediately establishes its character. Widely recognized throughout modern motorsport for its exceptional strength and remarkably low weight, forged carbon delivers outstanding wearing comfort while creating a unique marbled texture that ensures every watch possesses its own individual appearance. The cushion shaped case introduced with the contemporary TAG Heuer Monza gives the watch a confident presence on the wrist, reinforcing its sporting personality through a material directly associated with today’s racing technology.
The black dial introduces design elements inspired by the original 1976 Heuer Monza while remaining rooted in contemporary watchmaking. Matte black chronograph counters contrast against the dial to maximize legibility, while carefully positioned red accents recall the historic color signatures of the collection. White lacquered hour and minute hands, treated with white Super LumiNova®, ensure excellent readability in every environment. A black chronograph minute counter sits at 3 o’clock, the permanent seconds display is positioned at 6 o’clock, and the angled date aperture at 9 o’clock preserves the distinctive architecture developed for the modern TAG Heuer Monza.
Framing the dial, the black flange combines both a tachymeter and a pulsometer scale, celebrating the functional origins of the chronograph.
Turning the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph over reveals the COSC certified manufacture Calibre TH20-12 through the sapphire crystal case back. It incorporates the flyback chronograph function, allowing consecutive timing intervals to be measured without interrupting the chronograph. A single press instantly resets and restarts the timing sequence, making the complication particularly valuable in motorsport, where every fraction of a second counts.
Completing the timepiece is a black perforated calfskin strap finished with contrasting red stitching, a subtle reference to the world of classic motor racing.
Presented as a limited edition of only 500 numbered pieces, the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph reinforces its position as one of the Maison’s most distinctive collector’s chronographs.
Unveiled during one of the most anticipated weekends of the Formula 1® season, the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph captures the intensity, precision and competitive spirit that have connected the Maison with motor racing for decades. Fifty years after the original TAG Heuer Monza first celebrated a World Championship victory, this anniversary edition continues the story through a chronograph created for those who continue to measure every second.
