Breitling CEO Georges Kern, who accepted the awards on behalf of his brand, was pleased by the results: “We are proud that, even in this year’s challenging circumstances and despite the lockdown, we remained committed to our strategy and our mission: we continued to launch extraordinary new products, such as the Top Time in March and the Chronomat in April, followed by the Endurance Pro and the new Chronomat for women in autumn", he said. "Our modern-retro design approach has resonated with people around the world, and we are increasingly appreciated as a casual, inclusive, and sustainable alternative to more traditional luxury brands. This recognition from the GPHG confirms that we’ve been on the right path, and we are proud of these two prizes.”

In April, Breitling introduced a watch that attracted enormous attention. The Superocean ’57 Limited Edition was launched during the brand’s first-ever Summit Webcast, which, because of the pandemic and the lockdowns, was streamed globally. The Summit audience saw its rainbow-inspired design elements as symbols of hope and optimism, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback led Breitling to launch a seconde edition, this time with a blue dial, limited to 1000 pieces. Part of the proceeds from the watch, in total over USD 777,000, were donated to charities supporting the frontline health care workers in some of the most-affected countries. The Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition II supported a great cause, and we are proud that this watch, with its compelling story, was awarded a GPHG prize.

The Diver’s Watch Prize: The Breitling Superocean Automatic 48

Big, bold, and bulky, the Superocean Automatic 48 was especially designed to meet daring divers’ needs. It features an impressively oversized 48-millimeter DLC-coated titanium case, a black ceramic bezel, and an eye-catching green dial. It has a soft-iron inner case that offers protection against the effects of magnetic fields, while the bidirectional rotating bezel can be safely secured with a lock on the left side of the case. It is presented on a matching green rubber strap with a DLC-coated stainless-steel pin buckle. Water resistant up to 30 bar (300 meters), it is equal to any challenge a diver, swimmer, or surfer might encounter.

Due to the pandemic, the ceremony was unlike any other edition of the GPHG. It was not open to the public and attended only by winners, jury members, and relevant authorities; however, the event was broadcast live on www.qphq.org and www.euronews.com, and streamed on some other media sites.
