Mauron Musy is the brainchild of Eric Mauron and his son-in-law Christophe Musy. Eric took over his father’s mechanics workshop in the town of St. Aubin, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, which produces components for the Swiss watch industry. Over a morning coffee break with his son-in-law in 2013, the decision was taken to make watches for their friends.
The project subsequently grew from friends and family to a hyperlocal crowdfunding approach, which saw the first Mauron Musy owners coming from the local region of Broye, which extends southwards from the southern shore of Lake Neuchâtel. At the heart of the watches is Mauron Musy’s patented nO-Ring® gasket-free technology. The name is a play on words, adding a single letter to negate the widely used O-ring gaskets that guarantee water resistance in a watch. The nO-Ring® system uses a purely mechanical seal without any synthetic material, greatly improving the lifespan of the watch (the brand recommends service intervals of 7 years – the longest in the industry). Water resistance is even guaranteed with the crown pulled out in the winding position – it can even be operated underwater.
Mauron Musy controls the entire manufacturing process, from research and development to design, manufacturing of case parts, dials and final assembly and adjustment. The brand’s in-house movement was developed by La Joux-Perret for exclusive use by Mauron Musy.
