In 2023, our total global carbon emissions were down 16.5 per cent year-on-year against an annual target of 10 per cent, meaning we have reduced our emissions by 23 per cent over two years compared to our base year of 2019. We’re therefore ahead of our three-year target of 27.1 per cent and making real, tangible progress. At the same time, the Oris global network and community have grown.
Our mission to bring Change for the Better is expressed through a diverse range of projects. At home, we continue to implement changes that reduce our carbon footprint, taking fewer flights, working with sustainably minded logistics partners, switching to electric vehicles and introducing a radically sustainable new watch packaging solution. Our new packaging, as a good example, has an environmental impact almost 50 per cent lower than our previous solution. This is real change.
We have also expanded our collaborative programme of people and planet projects, working on social and environmental initiatives hand-in-hand with agents of change such as France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel, cricket’s Marylebone Cricket Club and the New York Yankees. We are also delighted to continue our collaboration with UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Yusra Mardini and as an Oris Sustainability Partner to the Yusra Mardini Foundation as she works to combat the global tragedy of people displacement.
We continue to work with the independent climate experts ClimatePartner to calculate our carbon emissions and we would like to place on record our thanks to them for their hard work. They have helped us understand our position, how we can implement immediate change, and how we can take responsibility for those emissions that are still classified as unavoidable.
The Oris Change for the Better mission continues. We are now in our third and final year of the first phase Oris Emissions Reductions Programme and on track to hit our 27.1 per cent total carbon emissions reduction target.
“We’re ahead of target, but we’re not slowing down,” said Rolf Studer, Oris Co-CEO. “We’re pursuing this programme because as an independent company that makes luxury mechanical watches for the world citizen, we believe it’s the right thing to do. We’re a lighthouse for sustainability in an uncertain world, and we consider it our responsibility to unite people around change. It’s only together we can bring Change for the Better.”
