Last week I blogged about my search for a good vacation watch. I thought I found it, but I can always get better. Whether it's backpacking, diving, hiking or gambling in Las Vegas, everybody has his own vacation desires. And for every vacation there's a watch.
Does a perfect vacation watch exist? It would be good to describe the needs are before an answer to that question can be given. Of course everyone has different idea about a vacation, thus different requirements for an ideal vacation watch. Some like to go to a luxurious hotel, some prefer city trips. Maybe you like to go hiking, diving, mountain climbing or a go on a nice ski trip in winter time. Or maybe you prefer a combination of several activities. This would make the requirement for a vacation watch different for all these types of vacation, especially when you prefer a combination!
Linde Werdelin actually offers watches that will match with everyone's vacation plans. They make the perfect vacation watch... and more.
Linde Werdelin's concept offers a wristwatch that can be combined it with an instrument for either diving or mountain sports. Since there are watches available in steel, titanium, steel/gold or gold, you can imagine there's one for everyone and for every setting.
The same goes for the instruments. The Rock, Linde Werdelin's land instrument, is a lightweight module that can be clicked on top of all their watches. For mountain sports including skiing it has a 3 axis compass, barometer, logbook, trend indicator and temperature including a frostbite warning alarm. Especially for skiing it has an incorporated ski guide!
As a hobby diver myself, all functions I would require from a dive computer are available on the Reef, Linde Werdelin's sea instrument. To be quite honest, it's actually a very complete dive computer including a 3 axis compass, something you won't find on most dive computers.
Connecting one of the instruments to the watch is very easy, it doesn't take longer than a few seconds. Although the instruments have a power-save mode and a long battery live, they come with a portable battery charger, powered by a 9-volt battery. This makes it easy to recharge the instrument when you're on the move for a longer period.

Now to get back to the initial question. Does a perfect vacation watch exist? In my opinion it does. Linde Werdelin offers beautiful watches; tough, rugged, sophisticated and the all gold models can easily be called chic. The Octopus, The One and The SpidoLite tell time and date, The 3-Timer has a GMT function for a second timezone and a rotatable bezel for a third timezone. All these watches are waterproof to 300 meters. In combination with instruments for the most popular vacation activities, they have made the ultimate vacation watch.
On Linde Werdelin's website you can read more about the collection and functions of the instruments.

I think it's about a year ago that I first read about Linde Werdelin in a watch magazine. At first I was not that impressed to be quite honest. This year at Baselworld I saw them in the flesh, or should I say metal, and my opinion changed in a split second. The level of detail and finish on Linde Werdelin's watches is gorgeous. The case is brushed metal with polish angles. This give it a rugged yet very classy look. The strap's connection is more or less integrated in the case and is attached with screws. Again rugged yet classy. The strap... especially the alligator strap is one of the finest alligator straps I've ever seen.
