Cuervo y Sobrinos is a profoundly Latin watchmaking/jewellery brand born in Havana in 1882, which has produced Swiss watches from the outset. When Marzio Villa discovered its history he decided to re-launch watch production through a new company, of which he is President and CEO. Based in Lugano in Switzerland, it produced its first models in 2004.
Marzio Villa was born in Milan in 1946, and studied law after leaving school. It was pure chance that led him into watchmaking and jewellery, when he helped out an Italian friend. In 1980 he created a jewellery brand in Milan and, in 1982, a watch distribution company in Madrid. Diarsa, as it was called, specialised in the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American markets. Marzio Villa folded his Italian business after seven years to focus on Diarsa. Today Diarsa, which naturally distributes Cuervo y Sobrinos products, is recognised as a benchmark company in its sector.
