The Young Masters in Shanghai

Girard-Perregaux presented an industry first in 2012 with its New Face of Tradition project and its watchmakers travelling around the world. This year, the Girard-Perregaux Young Masters’ Tour once again hits China. After visiting Beijing, Jinan, and Dalian, the Tour officially stops in Shanghai to present the art of its watchmakers and some of its unique watch collections including its revolutionary Constant Escapement L.M.

On the morning of the exhibition day, Girard-Perregaux held a press conference at the Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Shanghai. Stéphane Oes, director of the Movement R&D Department of Girard-Perregaux, introduced to the Chinese press the Constant Escapement L.M. This concept was designed by Girard-Perregaux over eight years of research and development.


A guarantee of precision and regularity for the functioning of a mechanical watch, the constant-force escapement allows continual energy to be passed on to the regulator (balance), whatever that of the barrel. Behind a relatively simple principle lie three patents as well as a demand for absolute precision for which Girard-Perregaux radicalized technical and aesthetic options incorporating a 14-micron thin silicon buckled-blade in the escapement to deliver constant energy.  

In Shanghai Girard-Perregaux also showcased its 2013 latest creations and some pieces of its current collection - the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Integrated Chronograph, the Sea Hawk Ceramic, the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges or the Girard-Perregaux Minute Repeater and Equation of Time.

Girard-Perregaux’ new generation of watchmakers will move their workshop to Hang Lung Plaza, offering guests special insight into intricacies of a watch movement and providing a one-on-one watchmaking experiences. They also brought their watchmaking workbenches to the Bund for a unique photo shoot. The Tour will continue to visit China, stopping in Hangzhou and Kunming.
