The first edition of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup, reserved to classic cars built until 1969, has come to an end.

The first edition of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup has come to an end: a regularity rally organised by Scuderia Tricolore of Reggio Emilia and reserved to classic cars built until 1969. There were 60 crews at the start, mostly foreign. Many nations were represented by the competitors: aside from Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, France, Russia, Australia,… The winner is the crew Mozzi - Biacca, followed by Gamberini - Fabbri and Massara - Schira

There was great excitement for the Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup, especially among the foreigners, who see in its unfolding, in the five star hospitality, in the majestic Alpine sceneries and in the test and average trials an unmissable great event. Its formula of roads, landscapes and convivial moments is a perfect treat to everyone who lives the passion for historic cars, but also appreciates its cultural, touristic and gourmet aspects.

The race

The many reconnaissances resulted in a unique and fascinating route, along the panoramic roads of the most famous Alpine passes: Stelvio, Bernina, Gavia, Mortirolo were the setting where the “old ladies” and their crews challenged each other in tough trials to the last bend. These are the roads of the historical uphill test trials, where the crews fought to the last hundredth of a second.

A first edition that already has people talking for its spectacular 540 km of roads that crossed three nations. A route with peerless and breathtaking sceneries, in the heart of the Alps among Italy, Austria and Switzerland.

The podium

The rally has ended with the victory of the crew number 1 Mozzi-Biacca on their 1955 Triumph TR 2, followed by Gamberini-Fabbri on a 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Massara-Schira on a 1966 Lancia Fulvia HF 12.
The Awards Ceremony took place inside the park of the Grand Hotel Bagni Nuovi of Bormio, which welcomed all the competitors since Thursday, offering them great relaxation in its splendid hot springs at the end of each leg.

The words of the competitors

Marzio Villa himself, Patron of the race and Chairman of Cuervo y Sobrinos, describes the Cup: “I have been visiting Bormio since I was a child, and the 61 years I have lived on these roads have made me love Bormio and the whole Valtellina. I consider myself a citizen of this city, which I love very much. I have been thinking for a lot of time about a way to bring together my three greatest passions: this territory, the watches and the classic cars…this is how the Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup was born.”

Indeed, this rally was strongly wanted by Cuervo y Sobrinos, who created this event in partnership with Scuderia Tricolore and Canossa Events.

“It is a unique event,” continues Villa, “60 prestigious classic cars, built between the twenties and 1969…not old cars, but actual classic cars! This is the true core of the event. I love these cars, and there is a valid reason to it: when people look at a beautiful modern sports car, they appreciate it, but only from a serious, rational point of view: its performances, its speed… when people look at classic cars, however, they reminisce and smile. This is what really counts: making people dream and smile, and I want to achieve that with my creations. This is what connects this event and the Cuervo y Sobrinos watches. A historical brand born in Cuba, back when luxury was a lifestyle. After all, as incredible as it sounds, during the 17th century the Court of Madrid hosted an ambassador from Bormio: thus closes the circle among territory, watches, cars, Latin culture and passion.”

Cuervo y Sobrinos, title sponsor of the event, believed in this Cup, and created a new series of Swiss Made watches dedicated to the drivers: the Racing Collection has a sporty design and features, but it will still be in line with the luxury theme that characterises the Maison. There are five watches in this new collection, and one of them will be given to each driver as a gift. They will be unique pieces, serigraphed with the name of the event and the racing number of the driver.

Luigi Orlandini, Chairman of Scuderia Tricolore, underlines the peculiarities of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup: “The Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup has been created as a unique event: a panoramic route along the most beautiful Italian passes, with the commemoration of the itineraries of historical uphill test trials, but mainly an occasion for relaxation and healthiness among charming mountains and evenings in a wonderful setting, to share the great passion that we all have in common! We offered to the competitors my ideal kind of event: tough on the technical side, but at the same time an intense entertaining experience, capable of exciting even during the convivial moments, and with a top level hospitality. Of course, all of this was possible also thanks to the involvement of excellent partners: Cuervo y Sobrinos, Credit Suisse and Jaguar, who welcomed this project with enthusiasm. We really have to thank them for making all of this possible!”
