SeaQ Panorama Date to accompany Boris Herrmann on his race across the oceans.

Boris Herrmann and the Vendée Globe

As one of 33 skippers, Boris Herrmann sets sail on November 8, 2020 from Les Sables d’Olonne in France. He is the first German to participate in this race across the world’s oceans. The famous regatta, which takes place every four years, is considered to be sailing’s greatest challenge, and is also known as the “Everest of the oceans”. The current race record is just over 74 days, with some boats reaching speeds of over 70 km per hour. The route also traverses the tempestuous Southern Ocean, known for its extremes of wind and waves.

Boris Herrmann will compete aboard his 60-foot (18-metre) yacht, Seaexplorer – Yacht Club de Monaco. Since it was founded in 1989, the race has seen some of the greatest sailors in the world take part, each aiming to be the fastest person to sail non-stop alone around the world, a challenging feat that fewer than 100 people have completed so far.

For Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia this race is more than just an extreme challenge in sailing. During the race, Boris Herrmann will take measurements and gather important oceanographic data that will help scientists with evidence to further the understanding and mitigation of climate change. Via an onboard laboratory Seaexplorer will take water sample readings automatically from the most remote ocean areas and send this valuable data back to research institutes such as the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. Team Malizia has also founded an educational program to make children around the world aware of climate change and the ocean.

Maximum precision and reliability

Since the 19th century precision timepieces from Glashütte have served as reliable instruments for navigation on land, water and in the air. Numerous historic Glashütte marine chronometers, observation and diver’s watches document the use of highly accurate watches known as instrument watches. Based on this treasure house of experience and our historic legacy Glashütte Original developed the Spezialist Collection, to which the SeaQ Panorama Date belongs.

The SeaQ Panorama Date is water-resistant up to 30 bar and equipped to face any adventure on and in the water. The screw-down crown and centrally-screwed sapphire crystal case back reinforce the essential water resistance of this premium timepiece. As a genuine diver’s watch the SeaQ Panorama Date is fitted with a unidirectional counter-clockwise rotating bezel. The clear minute click, the triangle with Super-LumiNova that marks the start of the dive, and the bezel’s scratch-proof ceramic inlay help the diver to stay on top of things even under difficult visibility conditions.

The movement is mounted in the case in a particularly shock-resistant manner and features a remarkable running time of 100 hours. Thanks to the silicon balance spring, which remains unaffected by changes in temperature and magnetic fields, reliable high rate precision is guaranteed. The SeaQ Panorama Date meets the most rigorous German and international standards of quality and is put through extensive in-house tests for water resistance and airtightness at under- and overpressure.
