Passionately different

Today, as ever, watches of the legendary and old-established H.Moser & Cie brand reflect a number of fundamental principles that have become embodied in the company philosophy.
“Passion for what we do and how we do it” is a recurring theme throughout the history of the company. More often than not, this passionate dedication by its very nature brings about results that are somewhat different from what was and is customary at the time in question. The Swiss native, Heinrich Moser, chose to establish his watch business not in Switzerland, but in Russia. And although our present-day watches may appear very simple at first sight, they are actually anything but simple. We apply the same passion to our relations with our customers and suppliers by seeking to maintain constant contact and to identify the best solutions through intensive dialogue. While remaining true to the historical roots of our brand, our appreciation of modern, mechanical watchmaking technology does not necessarily correspond to the generally accepted approach. The ability to produce watches at the highest level with a high recognition value, high technical aspirations and a timeless aesthetic calls for teamwork from many specialists.

If you want to make the best watches in the world, you must go to the best suppliersThis statement can be traced back to business letters handed down from the founder of the company, Heinrich Moser. He also worked according to this principle, because to make everything in-house does not inevitably lead to the best quality.Only those who have possessed a mastery of highly specialized watch-making technology over several generations are rightly qualified to manufacture really high-grade components of the best quality and appearance. It is possible to learn how to operate machines. Experience, on the other hand, filters down through the generations. Our movements are actually manufacture movements, because they are assembled by hand and not by automatic machines. We even melt some of our material ourselves, because it is not commercially available, which means that our involvement is truly at first hand. We stop just short of digging the necessary minerals out of the ground ourselves. The uniqueness of the Swiss Jura, its landscape, its people, their networks and experience over generations in conjunction with the thoroughness of Swiss people, guarantee the best possible execution and production of the components for our outstanding and unique watches.Watches from H.Moser & Cie involve techniques which do not lend themselves to economic production in large seriesThe uniqueness of H. Moser & Cie watches derives not least from the fact that various parts of the movement have been realized in their historical context. One example of this is the classic screw balance of all H. Moser & Cie movements. It is large, in spite of the long power reserve of the watch. The balance wheel ring is tall and narrow, although it must still accommodate a screw thread for the gold weight compensation screws. It is also balanced with adjusting screws, even though that space must still be available for a slot for pre-loading the screw in the screw thread with a diameter of only 0.35 mm.None of this is really new, however, and it was already feasible in Heinrich Moser's day. But it has never found a place in the large series that are typical of the cost-optimized production by today's movement manufacturers. It is precisely this difference that confers tangible legitimacy upon the exclusivity of H. Moser & Cie watches.
