In addition to the implementation of the immediate measures, the overall scheme for 2012-2013 is also to raise international public awareness about the need to safeguard threatened marine environments. Jaeger-LeCoultre, first created nearly 180 years ago, has made a long-term commitment to this environmental cause, in keeping with the core values of a watchmaking brand that has always favoured harmonious development and ensuring that its activities have the least possible environmental impact on the localities of outstanding natural beauty.

Seven marine sites selected by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre feature in the Tides of Time campaign for 2012-2013:

- Islands and protected areas of the Gulf of California (Mexico)
- Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan (China)
- Aeolian Islands (Italy)
- Socotra Archipelago (Yemen)
- Ogasawara Islands (Japan)
- Brazilian Atlantic Islands
- East Rennell (Solomon Islands, South Pacific)

In order to promote public interest in the safeguarding of these sites, which are of major importance for the preservation of biodiversity and the future of our planet, the International Herald Tribune will provide detailed descriptions of them both in its Tides of Time supplement and on its website. For its part, Jaeger-LeCoultre will also make its web portal available in favour of this cause, which is so close to its heart, by allowing internet users from all over the world to view articles dealing with the sites included in the World Heritage List.
