Officine Panerai traces its origins back to 1860 when Giovanni Panerai opened a watchmaker’s shop in Florence and became a supplier of precision instruments, such as depth gauges and wristwatches, to the Italian Navy. Today, Officine Panerai's Radiomir and Luminor collections still use the strong identity of the original military models.
Radiomir is named after a radium-based powder developped by the company to improve underwater and low-light time display.

The brand, which opened a production facility in Neuchâtel in 2002 where the in-house movements are produced, belongs to the Richemont Group.
