What you might have missed… - Review
1 minute read
In our lightly renamed and restructured monthly column we look back on some of the news from the world of watchmaking over the past month that you might have missed.

This monthly review is intended to complement our weekly newsletter and will therefore shy away from the breaking news to bring you some of the perhaps less publicised, but equally interesting, news from the industry.

We start with a football-themed batch of news from some brands that you may not necessarily have grouped together with the big guns associated with the beautiful game. TAG Heuer’s new partnership with Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, came as something of a surprise, while Carl F. Bucherer’s tie-up with the Swiss Football Association and Seiko’s new agreement with the Asian Football Confederation both make perfect sense.

It was, however, Hautlence that produced one of the biggest football-related coups of the past month, discreetly ferrying former Manchester United hero Eric Cantona to “cross the line” as the brand’s new ambassador at its quiet corner of the Ramada Hotel. Even his chaperone, the MELB holding’s finance director Bill Muirhead, a die-hard fan of Manchester United’s arch rivals Liverpool, seemed delighted with the new signing.

The past month was obviously the richest in the year for new product announcements. In keeping with the philosophy of our new column we bring you a selection of new releases for 2014 that you may not have seen:

Backes & Strauss – Royal Jester
Badollet – Crystalball Chronograph
Julien Coudray 1588
Davidoff Velocity Diver Night Dive Edition
Zenith – Pilot 1903
RSW - Chasseral
