Jean-Marc Pontroué graduated from the Audencia Nantes school of management and began his career in the leather goods industry as sales director for a number of international brands. In 1995 he joined the LVMH group, where he became sales manager for Givenchy. In 2000 he left to join the Richemont group, working for Montblanc in Hamburg, where he rose to the position of executive vice-president for product strategy and brand development.

Jean-Marc Pontroué joined Roger Dubuis, another Richemont brand, in October 2011, and took over as President and CEO in February 2012. After more than six years in charge of Roger Dubuis and nearly 20 years with the Richemont Group, he was appointed CEO of Officine Panerai in April 2018.
