The Inspiration – A few years ago John Isaac had a dream. He wanted to create an unparalleled collection of watches that would successfully combine the best of top-quality, Swiss watchmaking tradition with the latest in modern design and technology. An uncompromising product, that would effortlessly unite established savoir-faire with contemporary style at its best.
“With this collection,I have created watches for the new generation”, explains John. “Watches that I once dreamt of wearing myself. Deeply rooted in the traditions of Swiss watchmaking, but nevertheless breaking away from the tried and tested parameters. A modern interpretation of what a quality Swiss watch should be today. Not like a watch that you inherit - full of associations and connotations of the past - but a watch that will be defined by you, by the new generation. A generation eager to make its own, distinct mark.”
The Watches - Bringing all his creativity and know-how to this new concept, John Isaac sought to give his designs distinct and unrepentant aesthetics. Soft curves, big numerals, strong colours - John Isaac Genève watches are instantly recognizable and unique in their style. Top technical quality, innovative design, as well as competitive costing informed every decision of the design process.
“I considered every aspect of the watch in great detail”, enthuses John. “My whole focus was to design a watch that would suit the lifestyle needs of a generation that is active 24/7. The watches reflect this, as they are built to be worn at all times and everywhere – at work, at the beach, at a movie premiere, or wherever life will take you.”
All John Isaac Genève watches are made and tested in Switzerland by the best craftsmen and master watchmakers. The watches are automatic and contain a self-winding, mechanical movement, which is powered by the movements of the wearer's wrist. There are four lines to the collection: One (the original), Icon (the watch for all-rounders, also available in XL size), Rough Sea (an active-sports model), and Grand Prix (a chronograph complication). Each line offers a wide selection of models (different executions and materials), plus two Limited Edition styles called Jumping Hour and Quantième (featuring complication movements developed by John Isaac in collaboration with Dubois-Depraz).
The Quality – John Isaac Genève watches are built to last. John sourced his components from the same manufacturers that supply the very elite of Swiss watch brands. Every detail of the design and manufacturing process was aimed at creating a fine quality, mechanical watch that would come to represent exceptional value for money in today's high-end watch market.
How was it possible to create an exceptional quality timepiece at such an affordable price? “We carefully selected each component from both a design and cost standpoint”, explains John. “I used the elliptical shape of the Safecase as my design platform. Then the bracelet design – it allows the wearer to switch bracelets to taste. And just like that, every other aspect of the watch was developed with this powerful objective in mind. The craftsmanship and quality are Swiss. The style and price are not. Aiming to keep the cost down is also reflected in our distribution strategy, with an emphasis on e-commerce supported by a few, select watch-outlets.”
Further evidence to John Isaac Genève's intention to offer outstanding value for money throughout, is the 2-year insurance policy that covers every John Isaac Genève watch against theft, as well as breakage or material damage.
The Man Behind The Brand - John Isaac's life has always been about watches. “My grandfather was a great dial-painter and watch aficionado,” reminisces John. In true family tradition, John initially studied the art of dial-painting with his grandfather. He then spent five years working as a designer for two of the most prestigious watch brands in the world.
“Swiss horlogerie was a realm I was passionate about, but for which I lacked the formal understanding of what went into creating these most amazing timepieces. 2001 is when I decided I would be a watchmaker. I was incredibly lucky to have been taken under the wings of brilliant watchmasters, gifted designers, and accomplished workmen at some of the world's greatest watchmaking houses. I knew then that being part of establishing a new watch brand would be my calling. Never, however, did I imagine that the brand would be named after me – as well as my grandfather Jacques Isaac – to whom I owe everything.”
After making a name for himself - pioneering his craft by customizing the dials of vintage watches with his imaginative designs - John Isaac's passion for watches saw him finally start his own watch company. “In 2006, at the age of 27, I decided to dive in deep by lining up the best craftsmen in Switzerland to manufacture watches for the new generation.” Today, John Isaac has achieved his dream - John Isaac Genève - watches for the new generation.
