Aficionados recognize the Cartier Tank at first glance with its two parallel brancards (sidebars) inspired by World War I tank tracks - and this despite the impressive range of stylistic variations it has generated since its creation in 1919. Unveiled in 1928, reinterpreted in the 1930s as a few one-offs and then in 2005 in a 200-piece rose gold version, the Tank à Guichets makes a comeback this year as part of the Cartier Privé collection.

Its distinctive feature lies in a digital display of jumping hours and trailing minutes through two apertures placed at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock exactly like on the 1928 Tank à Guichets collector's piece. Beneath the satin-finished, brushed and polished yellow gold, rose gold or platinum case, time is ticked off by a manual-winding mechanism guaranteeing the model's overall slenderness. This technical sophistication is completely concealed behind an understated aesthetic based on impeccably well-balanced proportions.
