The IWC Schaffhausen manufacture introduces an all-new shade evocative of the prestigious Top Gun academy. It adorns the ceramic case, dial, and rubber strap of this high-performance chronograph.

With its Colors of TOP GUN collection, IWC offers ceramic watches in different shades, all inspired by the world of naval aviation. After the much-acclaimed Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe, Woodland, Oceana, and Jet Black, the manufacture now unveils an entirely new light blue color, developed in collaboration with Pantone®: TOP GUN Miramar. It takes inspiration from the T-shirts worn by TOP GUN instructors under their flight suits. The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar thus presents itself in a fresh and luminous monochrome livery, with ceramic case, dial, and rubber strap all in this same shade. The series is strictly limited to 1,000 pieces.

Building on this very summery new color, IWC is also launching a new version of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in stainless steel with a TOP GUN Miramar dial and rubber strap. This marks a first with a Pantone® shade.

Limited to 1,000 pieces, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar (Ref. IW389409) features a light blue ceramic case, paired with a dial and water-resistant rubber strap in the same color.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388117) comes with a 41-millimeter stainless steel case, a TOP GUN Miramar blue dial, and a rubber strap.

The stainless steel version is equipped with an open caseback revealing the movement, while the ceramic variant features a titanium back engraved with the iconic “TOP GUN” logo. In addition, it is fitted with a soft-iron inner case that protects the movement against magnetic fields.

Technical Feat

Creating a new ceramic color requires mastery of complex technical expertise. Zirconium oxide is mixed with various metallic oxides in a precisely defined ratio. As the color evolves during the sintering process, countless trials are necessary to achieve the exact desired result. One specific challenge is then to transfer the new ceramic color to other components of the watch, notably the dial and strap. Each part is made of materials with unique properties and requires specific manufacturing processes that IWC has perfected over the years.

« The manufacturing process of a colored ceramic watch is a remarkable feat in materials engineering.»

High-Precision Chronograph Caliber

IWC retains its vertical layout of the chronograph subdials, with minutes at 12 o’clock—a true hallmark of the brand—for simplified, intuitive chronograph reading. Both new chronographs are powered by robust and reliable movements from the IWC-manufactured 69000 caliber family. The column-wheel design ensures that switching sequences are precisely defined and provides the characteristic tactile feedback when pressing a pusher. Thanks to the bidirectional pawl winding system, the movements offer a 46-hour power reserve.
