TAG Heuer offers a moonphase that reimagines how lunar cycles are read, starting with the size of its display. At 6 o’clock, a very large black disc—covering more than half of the dial—precisely represents the evolution of the night sky’s celestial body through seven luminous depictions that glow in the dark.
Lunar Precision
In this new interpretation, two slender arrows at the center of the display simultaneously indicate the current phase of the Moon and its position within the 29.5-day lunar cycle. TAG Heuer emphasizes here its desire to break away from conventional, abstract moonphase displays in order to stay as close as possible to scientific observation. The model is functional, clear, and faithful to astronomical reality. In keeping with its pursuit of precision, the lunar disc advances daily at 1:00 AM to align perfectly with the Moon’s actual movement. This synchronization increases accuracy while strengthening the almost cosmic connection between the wearer and Earth’s satellite cycle. The original dial design reflects this unique philosophy by focusing attention on the moonphase display.
The caseback reveals an astronomical observatory, paying homage to the piece’s cosmic inspiration, accompanied by a laurel wreath symbolizing TAG Heuer’s new slogan, “Designed to Win,” a symbol of victory and excellence. The TAG Heuer Astronomer is powered by the recently launched Calibre 7, offering a 56-hour power reserve.
Three Models for a Shared Celestial Vision
TAG Heuer introduces three new 39mm models in their iconic Carrera line, featuring this innovative moonphase display.
The first belongs to the permanent collection. Housed in a steel case, it is all about clarity and contrast, with a silver sunray dial elegantly showcasing black minute markers and moonphase elements that evoke the depth of space. The hands are coated with white Super-LumiNova® for optimal legibility. This version comes with a "beads of rice" bracelet, a nod to the brand’s iconic 1960s style.
The second edition, limited to 500 numbered pieces, features an intense gray minute track—matching the lunar disc—surrounding a silver dial that highlights turquoise accents on the indexes, hands, and moonphase, further enhanced by Super-LumiNova®. A gray leather strap adds modern elegance to the watch.
The third version, also limited to 500 numbered pieces, combines stainless steel and rose gold for a warm, refined two-tone effect, amplified by the “beads of rice” bracelet blending both materials. The minute track, indexes, hands, and the word “Astronomer” within the moonphase are plated in 18k 5N rose gold, accented by Super-LumiNova®. The tone-on-tone moonphase integrates seamlessly into the overall design.
