Mexico City, Mexico, 14 October 2025 – Mexico has always held a special place in Hublot's heart. It is therefore only natural that the manufacture will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Big Bang at SIAR (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería, from 14 to 16 October). Hublot has chosen to mark the occasion by unveiling a very limited series of 100 pieces, the Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black which, for the first time, features a sapphire dial with a skull on its surface.

“Hublot and Mexico have a deep connection and a lasting friendship”, emphasises Julien Tornare, CEO of Hublot. “Celebrating the 20th anniversary of our Big Bang in Mexico was an obvious choice, given the exceptional loyalty of Mexican customers to our Manufacture. We designed this Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black for our local customers and retailers, of which there are around a dozen. This is a unique and different, very limited timepiece, in honour of the Mexican traditions that have fuelled our creativity for 20 years.”

A lasting friendship
The Big Bang Unico was the natural choice to celebrate this occasion. The Unico movement represents the crowning achievement of the brand which, between 2005 and 2025, became a truly integrated manufacture, equipped with the means to give life to its boundless creativity. This marked a rapid, disruptive transformation that profoundly changed the brand's trajectory and its impact on Haute Horlogerie. The All Black limited editions are also among the most sought-after by collectors, with Mexico boasting some of the leading experts.

The Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black takes this friendship between Hublot and Mexico to new heights, boasting the very first time the 42 mm Big Bang Unico All Black has been unveiled with a dial made entirely of sapphire. It features a stylised skull motif at its centre.

The interplay of light and dark
Sapphire was chosen for its translucent nature. It reveals the inner workings of the Unico movement, as well as the Calavera, an iconic motif in Mexican culture. It is the happy and joyful representation of death, celebrated during the Day of the Dead – a cultural celebration which is unique in the world, and which Hublot have marked with a unique and distinctive timepiece, limited to just 100 pieces. The choice of a sapphire dial creates a subtle interplay of light and dark between the case and the movement. The dial features a skull design covering the bridges and gears of the Unico calibre. The two are intimately linked, in life and in death. At first glance, the eye is drawn to the skull, as cheerful as it is dark and fascinating... then it is drawn into the 3D depth of the dial. Beneath the skull, the Unico's gear train and components are visible: The column wheel at 6 o'clock. Its bridges, its main plate, its jewels. To dive into the intimate depths of the Unico, there is no other choice but to look death in the eye...

The wheel turns
At 9 o'clock, Hublot has designed a special animation for the Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black. The left eye of the skull figure is constantly rotating, in the position of the small seconds dial. The continuous dance of life and death, of passing time, of the wheel turning, symbolised in a playful, technical feature. The timepiece retains the DNA of the Big Bang: two large luminous hands for the hours and minutes, the 60-minute counter at 3 o'clock, and the skeletonised date, also at 3 o'clock. The timepiece is dressed in shades of black and grey and will become a new addition to the limited edition All Black series, whose models have marked the life of the Big Bang since 2006.

As is customary for Hublot, several materials have been used to prepare the Big Bang Unico Calavera All Black for the rigours of everyday life. The screws and pushers are made of titanium. The case back is ceramic. The crown is made of black PVD titanium overmoulded with rubber. The strap is exclusive to this model, combining calfskin and rubber with an embossed skull motif. The timepiece also comes with an additional textured black rubber strap, finished with a titanium and ceramic folding clasp. Brimming with state-of-the-art technology, this watch is presented in a gift box featuring a stylised skull design on the front and specially designed for this individually numbered anniversary piece.
