The world’s leading luxury house, active in watchmaking for over two decades, introduces a new expression of its vision of haute horlogerie, one that is poetic, unconventional, artistic… and boldly psychedelic. A vivid invitation to dream in color.

The Tambour Taiko Arty Automata stands out as a lively and colorful horological creation. A total of 23 shades animate the multi-layered dial, built across seven levels to enhance depth and perspective. Seven poetic animations come to life on demand, activated by a push-button at 8 o’clock. Four flowers spin gracefully, a playful mouth opens and closes around a pink heart, an eye—its lashes crafted using featherwork—follows the scene with mischief, and the word “Love” transforms into “Move,” inviting motion and rhythm. The result is both captivating and full of joy.

Playful high watchmaking

The watch preserves the iconic Tambour design, featuring a rounded case that widens across the wrist while remaining curved for comfort, along with openworked lugs finished with polished and satin surfaces. The Louis Vuitton name, rendered in polished lettering on the satin-finished bezel, appears with refined subtlety. The 18k white gold case has been slimmed down in line with the evolution of the core collection in 2023, now measuring 42 mm in diameter and 13.6 mm in thickness (down from 46.8 mm and 14.5 mm in earlier versions).

This mechanical piece is powered by the automatic LFT AU05.01 calibre, developed and assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. With a 65-hour power reserve, this automaton movement skillfully controls the seven animations, the time display, and the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, almost overshadowed by the hypnotic, psychedelic artistry of the whole. With this creation, Louis Vuitton expresses its vision of haute horlogerie with bold creativity, and it succeeds.

Automata as a showcase of watchmaking excellence

Automata allow haute horlogerie to venture into diverse creative territories, offering freedom of expression and adding a strong artistic dimension to timepieces. Louis Vuitton has mastered this discipline, unveiling year after year new interpretations that highlight both craftsmanship and artistic vision within its young manufacture. The Tambour Taiko Arty Automata brilliantly combines the mastery of Grand Feu champlevé enamel, valued for its unique and lasting finish, with technical complexity. The dial bursts with pastel swirls and soft, cloud-like shapes, drawing attention to the hours-and-minutes subdial at 2 o’clock, which radiates in concentric circles of yellow, orange, red, fuchsia, and pink. The result is vibrant, joyful, and immersive, before the animated display begins.

A cornerstone of Louis Vuitton watchmaking

First introduced in 2002, the Tambour watch remains a cornerstone of Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking portfolio. Year after year, it has played a key role in building the brand’s legitimacy in fine watchmaking. This recognition naturally involves a move upmarket into haute horlogerie, a strategy reinforced by the acquisition of La Fabrique du Temps in Geneva in 2011. Louis Vuitton and Jean Arnault, the youngest of the Arnault siblings, aged 27, who has led the watch division since 2022, have fully embraced this direction, multiplying releases in this dynamic segment. The Tambour Taiko Arty Automata is a continuation of that approach.
