With nine models to choose from in the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph collection, where do you start? It is inspired by the Formula 1 collection, which was released in 1986. Interestingly, this was not only TAG Heuer’s first dedicated Formula 1 collection, it was also its first collection of the then-fresh fusion that was a result of Technical Avant Garde Group acquiring Heuer.
Said Maria Laffont, the current Chief Product Officer at TAG Heuer about the distinctive case silhouette and youthful colours make for an immediately recognisable collection: “Colour and energy have always been at the heart of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection, and in 2025 we fully embraced that legacy. Across the nine new references, you will find a dynamic range of vibrant colour combinations; red and black, green and white, blue and black, and more, all echoing the racing-inspired visual codes of the original 1986 models.”
At the same time, the new collection has a renewed sense of modernity and purpose. The new case size of 38 millimetres in bold colour combinations makes for an extremely wearable watch – with an energetic and youthful look, thanks to the updated materials.
“Sandblasted steel and DLC, the TH-Polylight bezels, and the mix of rubber straps and steel bracelets ensure that every piece in the line feels cohesive and contemporary, even as they play with individuality and expression,” Ms. Laffont continued.
So, what is TH-Polylight, which is a brand-new material for TAG Heuer? It is a lightweight, extremely durable, composite material which has almost unlimited possibilities in terms of colour. This has allowed the brand to craft bidirectional bezels that are both visually striking and deliver a more tactile and mechanical experience. Anyone who ever enjoyed a refined, clicking sound when rotating a bezel would know what an emotional pleasure I am referring to.
According to Ms. Laffont, TAG Heuer’s relationship with Formula 1 runs deeper than a traditional partnership. There is a shared history, emotion, and a relentless pursuit of performance that unifies the watch and the race.
“Our ties to the sport began in the 1970s with pioneering sponsorships like Scuderia Ferrari and continued through decades of innovation, timing some of the most iconic moments in motorsport history. Today, as the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1 and the first-ever Title Partner of the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco, we are embedded in its DNA. Every timepiece has carried and will continue to carry that energy, adrenaline, and engineering excellence that define both TAG Heuer and the world of F1,” she said.
The name of the current collection comes from the Solargraph movement, which is being used for Formula 1 watches for the first time. The movement runs on sunlight and can charge in just two minutes for a full day of use – and if you expose the watch to the sun for 40 hours, it can run for up to 10 months! Unlike batteries used in phones and cars, these batteries have a lifespan of 15 years.
Ms. Laffont also talked about details like the redesigned hands and indexes, which echo the shield shapes of the past. But, like the rest of the watch, any nostalgic touch is also brought back to the future, in this case with Super-LumiNova® for better legibility. As she concluded about the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph collection: “We have brought meaningful innovation to a line that has always stood for progress and energy.”
