A 44mm diving watch with metal bracelet, high-contrast dial and pure no-date functionality.

Panerai is pleased to unveil the new Submersible PAM01756, marking the debut of the first Submersible in a 44 mm case featuring a metal bracelet. Conceived as a complete diving instrument, the new watch is built for performance, bringing together the Maison’s key codes: robust case architecture, water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel for immersion time calculation, a highly readable dial, and a no-date configuration that keeps the display focused on the essential. Every visual decision serves a functional purpose, in line with Panerai’s historical approach to instruments designed for use at sea.

“The new Submersible PAM01756 is a contemporary tool watch that embodies our core philosophy, where every design choice serves a functional purpose, ensuring uncompromising performance and reliability”, affirms Alessandro Ficarelli, Panerai Chief Marketing and Heritage Officer, “This launch is significant as it introduces, for the very first time, a metal bracelet to a Submersible in our iconic 44mm case – a size that truly resonates with our community.”

Submersible PAM01756 is powered by the P.980 calibre, a 3-day power-reserve automatic movement featuring a traversing balance bridge that enhances stability and performance accuracy. The movement comes with a stop-second function, allowing for precise synchronization by halting the seconds hand when the crown lever is pulled out. This functionality directly harks back to Panerai’s military heritage and the critical requirement for perfect time coordination, a capability highly valued in demanding professional diving environments, such as the Navy. Further demonstrating its commitment to accuracy, P.980 has undergone six-position testing to ensure reliable chronometric performance, operating at a frequency designed to maintain consistent, accurate timekeeping over extended use.

The 44mm polished steel case mirrors the Maison’s steadfast commitment to strength and reliability through the use of AISI 316LVM grade 1.4441 stainless steel, chosen for its superior resistance to corrosion and its readiness for adventure. This is paired with a blue ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, a material renowned for its high scratch resistance bringing a technical quality to one of the watch’s most exposed components, while its polished blue surface references the Maison’s connection to the marine world. The bezel enables the wearer to monitor immersion time with precision, working with the minute hand as a central tool for underwater use.

A defining feature of Submersible PAM01756 is its no-date dial. The absence of a date aperture reflects the purpose-driven conception of the Maison’s historical precision instruments. In the history of Panerai, references produced before 1998 did not display the date, as their function was primarily linked to timekeeping and mission use for the Italian Navy. On Submersible PAM01756, this approach returns with contemporary relevance: without a date window, the dial remains direct and entirely dedicated to the reading of time and diving time.

To maximize contrast and readability, the no-date dial features a black sun-brushed finish. This delicate brushing technique involves spinning the dial on a lathe while a cutting tool engraves fine lines radiating from the center, creating a signature sunburst effect reflecting light outward, while producing a dynamic shimmer and visual movement as the viewing angle or lighting changes. White Super-LumiNova® is applied to the indexes and hands, creating a strong contrast against the black dial for immediate reading in daylight conditions. In the dark, the Submersible’s specific luminous language comes into play: the hour markers and hand emit a green glow, while the minute hand and the luminous dot at 12 o’clock on the bezel appear in blue, allowing the wearer to identify diving time quickly and intuitively.

The black small seconds counter features concentric circles in ‘azurage’, a circular engraving that adds texture on top while supporting the dynamic character of the black sun-brushed surface. The ‘azurage’ technique is a pattern created using a specialized tool that carves concentric circles into the dial, resulting in an illusion of moving waves adding depth and texture to the surface of the dial. Positioned at 9 o’clock, the small seconds also continues one of Panerai’s long-standing functional codes, originally connected to the need to confirm that the watch was running during demanding operations.

Designed for deep-sea exploration, the timepiece is water-resistant up to 50 BAR (~500 meters), reflecting once again Panerai’s legacy of creating reliable, high-performance instruments as a supplier of the Italian Navy. This performance is rigorously validated at Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where each watch undergoes advanced water-pressure testing that exceeds its guaranteed rating by 25% in machines that combine air and water tests, enabling precise measurement and sealing integrity under load. The screwed case back, which helps to ensure the watch’s high degree of water resistance, is made of stainless steel and it is engraved with the image of a Slow Speed Torpedo, the notorious “pig” on which the commandos of the Italian Navy sailed through the depths of the sea on their missions while wearing instruments made by Panerai.

The new reference expands Panerai’s metal bracelet offer within the Submersible line, whose story dates back to 1999, when the Maison began developing bracelet designs that combined function with an aesthetic directly inspired by its watch architecture. The bracelet construction recalls the form of the crown protective bridge, one of Panerai’s most recognizable functional elements, with alternating finishes that reveal the links differently as light moves across the wrist.

The timepiece is equipped with the Quick Length Adjustment feature, introduced for the very first time in the Submersible line, allowing the bracelet to extend by 2mm on each side while maintaining perfect balance on the wrist, supporting a more comfortable fit throughout the day without the need to remove links or use tools. This feature responds to a very practical need: the wrist naturally changes size depending on temperature, movement, travel or activity. Whether worn in summer heat, after a flight, or during active use, the bracelet can be adjusted quickly while preserving a secure fit.
