A taste for setting the pace
Innovation nonetheless remains omnipresent, as does the playful DNA of the independent Haute Horlogeriebrand. A fan of marathons and trail running in the Swiss mountains, CEO Edouard Meylan proclaims the message loud and clear. "While we take our profession very seriously, we cultivate our image as a 'cool kid’ in the watch industry. The Streamliner Pump vividly illustrates this philosophy: smiling sophistication; rigorous discipline that not preclude irreverence ; a mechanism inviting one to touch, press and feel. At a time when watchmaking is multiplying its feats, this watch reminds us that innovation also means reintroducing playfulness, surprise and inspiration."
So what exactly is this Streamliner Pump unveiled at Watches and Wonders? Those in their forties and fifties will doubtless remember the launch of the Pump sneaker by Reebok that could be adjusted at a single press and is set to make a comeback in 2026. Performance can go hand in hand with pleasure and the two brands are keen to prove it by bringing this sophisticated feature to the wrist, putting a smile on your face and a spring in your step. How could the principle of the famous orange button used to "pump" your sports shoes be applied to watchmaking? The relatively compact HMC 500 self-winding caliber had to be adapted and transformed into a manual-winding ver-sion, while repositioning its components: it is no longer wound via the crown, but by the orange aluminum push-button at 8 o'clock. This process generates a power reserve of more than an hour with each press, while the orange dial indicator unfolds like a rainbow through successive presses. Once at the end, it is still possible to continue playing with the push-button without any risk to the mechanical device.
Contrasts
Did some of you shudder when you read "quartz" in relation to this Streamliner? The term naturally refers not to the movement, but rather to the 40mm case that is made of forged quartz fiber - another bold step that is virtually unprecedented in watchmaking. Compressed and fired twice, it produces an original matt, UV-resistant finish, in this case back and white. The material covers a titanium container - housing the movement and guaranteeing water resistance to 10 ATM – to which the integrated bracelet is connected. The watch features a titanium caseback with a sapphire crystal center offering a spectacular view of the Manutacture movement and its exclusive finishes, such as the double "Moser stripes" pattern.
Contrasting with the textured material, the black or white lacquered and polished dial recalls the purity and understatement of H. Moser & Cie designs, where functionality takes precedence over any superfluous details. This is also true of the power reserve indicator as well as the luminescent hands and hour-markers offering impeccable readability thanks to the Globolight coating making them glow green in the dark.
You may well have to run to get your hands on this Streamliner Pump, of which only 250 are produced per color. Each watch comes with an exclusive complimentary pair of Reebok Pumps for the lucky buyers.
