Open until November 19th at the Chelsea Factory in New York, Planet OMEGA brings a renowned watchmaking history to life, with a display of iconic timepieces from past and present. It’s a chance to experience OMEGA’s rich DNA, with six unique areas dedicated to Sport and Olympic and Paralympic Games, Space, Ocean, James Bond, Friends, and Precision.
OMEGA has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, and the Official Timekeeper of the Paralympic Games since 1992. For over 90 years, the brand has been proudly recording dreams, while also developing some of the most critical timekeeping equipment that athletes rely on.
The sprinter, Noah Lyles, is one of the world’s most exciting young athletes, having already won a bronze medal in the 200m event at Tokyo 2020 and three gold medals at the 2023 World Championships. Speaking in New York, he said. “In my sport, every split second really counts. From the starting blocks, right to the finish line. The excellence that OMEGA brings is very reassuring and I know that all the athletes really appreciate the accuracy they bring to those important moments.”
Nathan Chen has won three medals in Figure Skating at the Olympic Winter Games – including a sensational gold at Beijing 2022. He said, “The values I share with OMEGA are all about precision. It takes commitment and hard work to get every detail right, and that’s something we both bring to our game. I love how this exhibition shows OMEGA’s dedication to so many areas.”
Allyson Felix is the most decorated U.S. Olympic track athlete. The sprinter has won 11 Olympic Games medals, including 7 gold. She said, “I’ve been to five Olympic Games, and at every one, OMEGA has brought a consistent high level of timekeeping. Their quality is so enduring. You can see it in sport, but also in all their other passions too.”
The newest OMEGA ambassador, Oksana Masters is a multi-sport athlete who has won 17 Paralympic Games medals including gold in Biathlon, Cycling & Cross-Country Skiing as well as a medal in Rowing. At the 2023 World Championship in Cycling, Oksana won by photo finish and knows how precious time can be. She said, “In my own experience, every sport requires a different way of thinking, as well as specialist timing technology and equipment. I’ve always been so impressed with how OMEGA has mastered each event. The word I would associate most with the brand is trust.”
The Planet OMEGA exhibition is filled with watches and stories from across the decades. Some of the sporting highlights to see up close include one of the original OMEGA stopwatch models used to time the Olympic Games in 1932, along with the Seamaster Diver 300M Special Edition model that has just been released for Paris 2024.
