After a fiercely fought championship, the Grand-Prix d'Antibes brought the 2011 Vulcain Trophy to a dramatic close.
Press release

Michel Desjoyeaux on Foncia clinched the final victory ahead of Alinghi (Ernesto Bertarelli) and Veltigroup (Stève Ravussin). The three skippers were presented with an exclusive Vulcain Nautical model dedicated to the event and produced in a limited edition, leaving just 97 remaining watches in the Nautical Trophy 2011 Limited Edition.

The verdict is in on the Vulcain Trophy 2011: after seven fascinating events – including two in the Mediterranean, a first for the Decision 35 circuit – Michel Desjoyeaux and the Foncia team topped the rankings after the four fiercely fought rounds of the season's last competition, the Grand-Prix d'Antibes. This final victory reflects the regularity demonstrated by Michel Desjoyeaux (with three victories and only one round without a podium finish): Speaking after the racing, Michel Desjoyeaux said he was thrilled with his team's performance: “Right from the start, the crew was a delight to work with. It was a daring wager, because we had never previously sailed all together. It's not enough to select excellent individuals; the mix has to work too”.

As title sponsor of the trophy, Swiss watch manufacturer Vulcain wished to highlight this season by issuing a special edition of its legendary Cricket Nautical alarm wristwatch. Produced in a 100-piece series – three of which were presented to the skippers who reached the podium of the Vulcain Trophy 2011 – this limited edition is distinguished by a resolutely different design. The 42 mm-diameter case, water-resistant to 300 metres and featuring alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, is topped by an unusual bezel adorned with the “Clou de Paris” hobnail pattern. The triple case-back – which enhances the sound and also means the alarm can be used under water – is engraved with the inscription “Vulcain Trophy 2011”, a depiction of the Decision 35 boat, as well as the individual number from 1/100 to 100/100 allocated to each watch. A new rubber-coated waterproof strap – with blue stitching matching the dial décor – accentuates the sporting nature of this exclusive Nautical model. At the heart of this exceptional watch beats Calibre V-10, the legendary Vulcain Cricket alarm movement that for over half a century has been making an indelible mark on the history of alarm watches.
