The world’s oldest sporting competition, held this year in Barcelona from 22 August to 27 October, has become a technological showcase where design and performance rival human talent. Featuring engineers from aeronautical and F1 backgrounds, along with renowned athletes, this event embodies the values of the watch brands partnering the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup, the pinnacle of the regatta and luxury worlds.
OMEGA: THE COLORS OF LOYALTY
Historically, Omega has been not simply the pioneer, but also the most loyal watch brand, in its capacity as sponsor of the New Zealanders (holders of the trophy in 2024) since 1995, and for the fourth time as official timekeeper of the America’s Cup (along with the Olympic Games in parallel!). On behalf of Emirates Team New Zealand, the brand has designed the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition in ceramic in the Defender’s colors. This 45.5mm diameter self-winding chronograph is water-resistant to 600 meters, making it particularly suitable for powerful wrists. Its nautical DNA is also reflected in the turquoise regatta countdown at 3 o'clock as well as in the seconds hand whose counterweight is sculpted in the shape of a silver ewer (the competition trophy). Its technical characteristics place it at the head of the fleet, thanks to the well-proven Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 9900, with a 60-hour power reserve. It comes with two turquoise rubber and black NATO straps secured by a folding clasp. Omega will present another model dedicated to the America’s Cup during the summer.
PANERAI DEDICATES A COLLECTION TO LUNA ROSSA
Partner to the America’s Cup in 2017 and to the Italian challenge since 2019, Panerai has capitalized on its experience to create five very sporty models in its Submersible collection. Its engineers have studied innovations in materials to reduce friction and increase performance, combining special steels and ceramic-coated titanium. Seven years of R&D have led to the design of the patented Ti-Ceramitech case, which is lighter and more resistant, and equips the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-CeramitechTM. This automatic diver’s watch, water-resistant to 500 meters and endowed with a three-day power reserve, features the ability to measure immersion time thanks to its unidirectional rotating titanium bezel. It also displays the date and a small seconds with stop-second function.
Likewise water-resistant to 500 meters, the Submersible GMT Luna Rossa is characterized by a GMT hand inspired by the Luna Rossa’s sails and a flange bearing a 24-hour dual-time display Its satin-brushed titanium case houses the P900 self-winding caliber ensuring a three-day power reserve. Its unidirectional rotating bezel in blue ceramic strikes an elegant contrast with the dial. Two bi-material and rubber straps are included.
An automatic steel diver’s watch (water-resistant to 300 meters with a three-day power reserve) featuring a unidirectional ceramic bezel, the Submersible Luna Rossa is the most accessible model, available in two versions: a 300-piece online limited edition with a matt grained white dial; or a variation featuring a blue sun-brushed dial.
In another price category, the Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition, in Carbotech and water-resistant to 300 meters, is available as a 20-piece limited edition. Purchasers will be treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience of the Cup.
TUDOR ALONGSIDE ALINGHI
Tudor is the latest arrival on the America’s Cup stage and also sponsors the Bol d’Or Mirabaud, last year unveiling a tandem in honor of this first nautical partnership, the Pelagos Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition. These two automatic watches with COSC-certified Manufacture movements feature a three-day power reserve and a matt black carbon composite case (with the Alinghi logo on the back) water-resistant to 200 meters, complete with a titanium screw-down crown. Highly legible, harmonious and lightweight, they also feature the famous Tudor fabric strap – in this instance blue – reinforced for nautical use. The chronograph and three hands are equipped with a notched bi-directional titanium bezel, whose carbon composite disk features a cleverly counter-clockwise-graduated 60-minute scale designed to better track the regatta countdown. What’s more, the Tudor duo has already won the affordable pricing aspect of the competition!
