The Albanian jewelry house Pirro unveiled its first watchmaking creation, "Primordial Passion," in 2024—a unique piece that brings together numerous artistic crafts beyond horology. The real question is: where can such a watch be worn?

At first glance, Primordial Passion captivates. Is it a watch, a sculpture, an automaton, a piece of ceramic art? Does it reference watchmaking, dance, or architecture more? One thing is certain—its uniqueness, preciousness, and color leave no doubt: its rightful place is on a red carpet.

An Ode to Dance
The twelve folkloric dancers, each in traditional costume and serving as hour markers on the dial, represent Albania’s rich heritage in the sixth art—the performing arts, to which dance belongs. This exceptional piece would be perfectly suited for the red carpet of the Prix de Lausanne, created in 1973 to honor the most promising talents in classical dance. The statuettes awarded in various categories (ballerina, dancer, composer, choreographer, and director) echo the sixteen hand-engraved figurines of this extraordinary watch. It would be just as at home at the Benois de la Danse, founded in 1991 by the International Dance Association of Moscow.

The one-of-a-kind Primordial Passion features sixteen miniature, hand-sculpted statuettes—twelve representing Albanian folkloric dancers and four depicting musicians at the center. The hyper-realistic figures capture even the joyful emotion of the dancers.

An Ode to Culture
Red unmistakably evokes the plush carpets of the Cannes Film Festival or the Oscars, where the best of fashion graces the spotlight to celebrate the finest in cinema—proudly showcasing the latest trending timepieces. But it’s truly at the Venice Film Festival where this piece would find its most fitting stage. Its dial is a micromosaic composed of 1,500 tiny rectangles of Murano glass, painstakingly set by hand into a labyrinth of warm red and black gradients. Ruço Pirro, the creator of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece, had to sift through 20,000 pieces to achieve the perfect composition. The dial of Primordial Passion is a true mosaic of Murano glass rectangles forming a labyrinthine pattern in deep shades of red and black, all elegantly highlighted by a fine thread of gold.

An Ode to Watchmaking Art
But the ideal stage to reveal the full artistic and horological complexity of this piece is undoubtedly the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, where this precious timepiece competed in 2024 in the Artistic Crafts category. Its passionate creator could well have strolled casually through the event with his masterpiece on his wrist. One thing is certain: Primordial Passion would feel at home on any red carpet, so fully does this miniature horological artwork pay tribute to every form of art it embodies and elevates. A true feat of fine watchmaking, with a movement developed by Agenhor, hand-crafted miniature sculptures of 12 dancers and 4 musicians, and a Murano glass labyrinth dial interwoven with gold, Primordial Passion is a pure artistic fusion of high jewelry and haute horlogerie.
