Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) is universally recognized as a brilliant watchmaker who revolutionized the mechanics and aesthetics of timepieces

With this new Classique 7637, the House of Breguet once again honors him by celebrating his invention of the leaf springs integrated into minute-repeater watches in place of the previously used bell-type gong. Wrapped around the movement, these blades made it possible to considerably reduce the thickness of chiming watches, while improving their sound quality. With this new, classic timepiece featuring a sophisticated Grand Feu enamel dial, Breguet has embarked on new research into the sound quality of its minute repeaters. On this model driven by the finely decorated Caliber 567.2, Breguet has mounted the gongs on the case middle rather than on the mainplate so as to ensure better sound diffusion. What’s more, since the gongs and case are made from the same gold, acoustic performance is enhanced for the same impedance.

The editorial team was impresed by this magnificent, classic aesthetic conceals the great technical complexity of one of the world’s most demanding watches.
