Sport, cinema, auctions, celebrities, watchmaking heritage: Omega has been everywhere this year, organising a legion of launches right across the globe. And if you’re worried you might have missed a rare gem from 2023 – relax! WorldTempus has you covered. Here’s a quick catch-up, in case you’re planning to treat yourself to a new timekeeper for the new year

The most iconic: Seamaster Diver 300M Paris 2024 Special Edition

Since 1932, Omega has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games 30 times. Paris will be the 31st. No other major sponsor has been as committed to the Olympics as Omega. Sponsoring the Games is not just about brand visibility – it’s also about financial support. Without the contribution of Omega and the other sponsors, the world’s biggest sports event (4 billion television viewers are expected in 2024) could not take place. The Seamaster Diver 300M Paris 2024 Special Edition, designed specifically for next summer’s event, is currently available only in Omega’s Paris boutiques. It is made from stainless steel and 18-karat Moonshine gold – a custom alloy with a subtle and timeless hue. The use of gold is a nod to the coveted Olympic medals. It’s a watch that will go down in history.

The sexiest: Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition

The next America’s Cup will not take place until 2024, but the Omega watch to accompany the event is already available. Good news: you don’t have to know your rudder from your rigging to get one. Bad news: they’re already in high demand. This hefty timepiece (45.5 mm) has a black satin-finished ceramic case and white enamel bezel. A true diver, it comes with a helium valve. The dial is set up for pre-race manoeuvres, with a 3-hour countdown conveniently marked with “Start”. The main race indicators are accented in a handsome turquoise, the team colour of the Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ for short). It’s a standout piece for Omega – powerful, vibrant and 100% sporty.

The most hyped: the Seamaster Summer Blue collection

Unless you live in a cave, you probably saw the international launch, in Mykonos, of the Seamaster Summer Blue collection. The simple but ingenious concept behind the collection is to grade the colour of the Seamaster dials according to their depth rating, from light to dark. The seven iconic models – 11 watches in total – come in a series of shades of blue. The deeper the colour, the deeper the dive. The collection ranges from the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, perfect for life on deck, to the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep 6000M, designed for the abyss. It’s a wonderful anniversary idea for the Seamster, which celebrated its 75th birthday in 2023.

The cult favourite: 007’s personal Seamaster

On 4 October Bonham’s of London organised a sale with the self-explanatory title “The personal collection of Sir Roger Moore”. Among the lots was a 41 mm Seamaster James Bond 50th Anniversary inscribed with the message “To Roger, love from Michael and Barbara”. Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael Wilson owned the 007 franchise. This ultimate collector’s piece went under the hammer for £57,550 (around CHF 63,450 or €67,00).

The most adventurous: Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer 2023

Omega is not known for its worldtimers, and yet it has made some of the most interesting. For this 2023 edition, the centre of the dial features a view of the Earth from the North Pole, with the continents and colours laser-engraved on titanium, reproducing the curvature of the Earth. Around the globe is a 24-hour scale, divided into day and night, under a hesalite crystal. The watch comes in charcoal grey or green and gold. It’s a bold creation, intended for discerning collectors and adventurers who prefer to venture away from the beaten path of traditional Worldtimers and GMTs. A calculated risk for Omega, and the confirmation of an aesthetic that is as mature and finely judged as it is polarising.
