For its fourth participation in the charity auction, Van Cleef & Arpels has created a unique timepiece: the Lady Arpels Une journée à Monaco.
After “Une journée à Paris”, which paid tribute to the monuments of the French capital, Van Cleef & Arpels drew inspiration from the Principality’s relaxing dolce vita to produce another Poetic Complication™ watch that evokes a stroll along the sea front.
With its turquoise dial, rotating disk in white gold and lapis lazuli, white mother-of-pearl top dial, case in white gold and diamonds, and white alligator strap, this creation in blue and white recalls the sky and sea of the French Riviera.
The turquoise dial offers a panoramic view of Monaco, from the famous Rock dominated by the Prince’s Palace and the greenery represented by two palm trees, to the emblematic port of Fontvieille with a boat bobbing in the distance. As the day advances, a mother and daughter take a stroll in Monaco, enjoying the precious moments they share together. Their silhouettes emerge from the dial, before slowly slipping away. A diamond-set bezel encircles and protects this scene.

The ever-present sea is conjured up by the leaping waves on the mother-of-pearl top dial and case back. A rotating disk in lapis lazuli in the centre of the dial evokes the intense blue of the Mediterranean, glinting in the sun or moonlight as the hours unfurl.
With this watch, Van Cleef & Arpels also pays subtle tribute to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, which is deeply committed to researching and protecting marine species, and to the special relationship that the Principality has always enjoyed with the sea.
