On June 6, 2014, the German Watch Museum Glashütte opened its new special exhibition, "The Glashütte Cottage Industry: A flourishing Supply System". One of the objects in this exhibition has proved to be a particularly fascinating attraction for visitors: the guilloche machine from 1898 is representative of the professional group of turners who were once resident in Glashütte. With the help of the machine they decorated cases, dials and engine parts, most often with geometric patterns. Visitors to the museum have been equally enthusiastic about the art of hand engraving. Specialists decorated watch cases with ornaments, coats of arms or initials to create individual works of art.
Guilloche decoration and engraving are to be the focus of two live presentations at the German Watch Museum Glashütte. On October 24 and 25, 2014, interested visitors will have the opportunity to observe three skilled craftsmen at work.
The demonstrations will take place from 10am to 5pm in the special exhibition room at the German Watch Museum Glashütte.
