Triple and Double

Triple and Double - A. Lange & Söhne
Focus on the Zeitwerk

In 2009, A. Lange & Söhne launched the Zeitwerk. Its all-digital indication of the hours and minutes on three jumping disks remains an exceptional horological achievement. This timepiece is based on a set of extremely strong technical constraints, which one willingly forgets when watching the minutes follow on from each other with their brisk and pleasing little sound. Considerable energy is required to start and then stop these incessant jumps. Managing them requires not only power but also control, which is provided by a constant force regulating mechanism. Naturally, the original power reserve of the Zeitwerk was therefore limited to 36 hours, which was not that meager, all things considered. However, the brand likes to improve and renew its calibers and to embody this increase in performance, the Zeitwerk introduces the new L043.6 movement in a pair of versions. One is made of platinum with a rhodium-plated dial; and the other of rose gold with a black dial. The triple jump of the disks now boasts double the power reserve – and all this without any change in size for the watch that is actually a tiny bit thinner at 12.22mm, perpetuating what is perhaps the brand’s most advanced watch.
