The dial of the Spaceship II has been designed in a three-dimensional sculpture, much like a space station floating in the galaxy. At night, it lights up thanks to SuperLumiNova on the Arabic numerals, hands, and indexes, enhancing its science fiction aesthetic.
A love for science fiction
Behrens has always been fascinated by space and scientific exploration, whether it is diving to the bottom of the ocean or exploring the galaxy above our heads. Timepieces such as the Apolar, the Consteller, the Mars Project, the Space Traveler, and the Star Trek all take their names from outside of our planet and the Behrens Starship II is no exception. This futuristic series of timepieces was designed as a celebration of space exploration and represents the pioneering spirit of the brand in terms of its mechanics and aesthetics.
When the dial is a spaceship
The dial protrudes from the centre in a circular concave structure, while the two skeletonized hands turn inside an inner circle, indicating the minutes and seconds. The hours are displayed on the outer ring and our read next to an “H” at six o’clock. The watch is housed in a 42 mm stainless steel case with a black coating and comes in a choice of seven different colours: red, orange, yellow, black, white, baby blue, or mint green. The colours start on the dial indications and continue over onto the “Viton” strap. This new strap material offers excellent comfort on the wrist and is resistant to heat, oxidation, oil, and corrosion. The strap also comes with a patented quick-release function, which greatly enhances the ease of operation.
All the details
The Starship II is powered by a Miyota 9 series automatic movement, on top of which Behrens has constructed a unique mechanical module that allows the watch to present time in this unconventional three-dimensional form. The caseback is engraved with a badge featuring a white Chinese dolphin. This animal combines space and marine elements to express the idea of protecting the planet, while also looking out into the unknown.
Water resistant to 100 metres, the Starship II is a watch that can do it all, and at just under CHF 2,000, you will be hard-pushed to find such fun mechanics at this price point elsewhere.
